Microsoft has the “ambition to build the best gaming console for fans,” says Spencer

Thursday, 10th April 2014 14:07 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Microsoft has released another video with new Xbox boss Phil Spencer discussing his new position and all things Xbox with Major Nelson.

In the video, Spencer discusses his 26 years Microsoft, and how he went from being programmer to Head of Xbox.

He also has high hopes for what Microsoft can do for users of its products.

“Fundamentally, this is a company that wants to change the world,” said Spencer. “They have the resources and the ambition to do that, whether it’s with Xbox or any of the products that we build.

“The discussions I’ve had about my role and what Xbox means, is we have the ambition to build the best gaming console for fans. A gaming console that plays the best game, has the best entertainment, and to be a company like this, it’s incredibly motivating for someone like me.”

He also discusses what he wants Xbox One to give to fans, and his favorite games such as Limbo and Max: The Curse of the Brotherhood.

Spencer also hinted at an unannounced title the firm will announced at E3 2014, and how it is atmospheric, and “soulful.”

Says Microsoft, as they try to promote a console that was most heavily marketed as the kitchen sink of electronics before even mentioning video games.

I’m being a little mean here, though. The people currently in charge, including Spencer, may be people that actually give a crap about video games. It doesn’t do anything to change the impression left by early XBox One marketing that Microsoft as a whole truthfully cares about everything other than video games, though.

    Talk is cheap.

Especially when you say irrelevant, pompous crap such as your company wanting to change the world.

I give you an 8/10. Only because i wanted to make that joke first ;)

On topic: As far as games go MS have more retail exclusives announced for their next gen platform compared to Sony, which could change at E3. However the majority of them have no footage yet, so i can’t call them big and one was sidelined in favour of more Gears Of Wars.

Has the ambition to build the best console? Then why didn’t they? Why did they build the second best? Or are they talking about their next console?

Microsoft should talk more about there ambitions and aspirations, since just talking about what they are ‘going to do’ apparently get’s them sales.

Listen to these guys. For starters give the guy a break. He just took over not 4 months ago.

Secondly what is this talk about “put your money where your mouth is”? Aren’t they already doing this? Is this not why I’m playing Titanfall and you aren’t ??!

He has to be talking in general terms, like Xbox as a division has ambitions to make the best games console possible in the future.

    Xbox One can’t be that.
It can be a great platform & offer gamers a lot, but it can’t be the easiest games console for developers to work on, with the most powerful hardware on the market.
Not at this moment in time, because that is without a shadow of a doubt the Playstation 4.

Best console? Sadly for Phil (and all of us), our tech money was spent on soccer moms, rather than decent hardware that can really push games. In my view the 360 was the better hardware last time ’round – the PS4 has the goods this time.
