Star Citizen passes $41 million in funding, next stretch goal will add a new fighter

Monday, 31st March 2014 17:20 GMT By Sherif Saed

Star Citizen has passed the $41 million mark in funding. And as promised, the simulation will not get procedurally generated content.

Details of the next stretch goal has also been announced on the Roberts Space Industries website. The next goal is set for $42 million.

Should it reach that goal, the game will get new content, including an in-game towel for players who pledge before reaching that goal. The most interesting addition however will be the new light short-range patrol fighter, called the Gladius fighter.

Thanks, Gamespot.

    Cor, an in-game towel!

People will buy anything, these days. And I’m still not convinced that they won’t take the money and run, as we’ve yet to see any compellingly convincing evidence of proper development going on.

@TheWulf Your kidding right? lets start out. They do 3 weekly shows updating developer progress, send out a monthly magazine full of new developer progress, they do tons of fiction regarding the game near daily and update the website and forums tons. your point is invalid.

No sci-fi would be complete without a towel when it comes to number 42 :-) It’s just a funny reference to Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy. Backers before hitting that goal will get a new fighter ship and a personal holographic interface.

It would have been a good april’s fool, if Chris Roberts announced, that he sold Star Citizen to Facebook for billions of dollars.

I’m thinking you should have written “now” instead “not”. Unless Chris is really trying to mess with the backers in a really crappy way.
