EA to approach Star Wars games similar to how Warner Bros. approached Batman Arkham, says EA CEO

Monday, 24th March 2014 18:52 GMT By Sherif Saed

EA CEO Andrew Wilson said that the firm is looking at what Warner Bros. did with Batman Arkham series and applying it to the upcoming Star Wars games.

In the same interview with CNN’s Fortune we reported on this morning, Andrew Wilson, EA’s CEO expressed admiration of how Warner Bros handled the story and arc in the Arkham Games.

“What Warner Bros. did with Batman was take the core roots of that IP and manifest that inside the walls of Gotham City and delivered an interactive experience that had real ties to what you would see in the films and what you had read in the comics, while having its own life because it could provide such deep and more immersive storylines.

“When we look at the Star Wars properties that’s how we’re looking at it. We’re not trying to build a game that replicates the storyline of any particular film.”

EA is currently the sole publisher of the core games in the Star Wars universe, after buying the rights from Disney last year. We know that DICE is working on a new Battlefront title, with another unannounced title in the works at Visceral.

Thanks, Gamespot.

    Did thought occur

    A. Before of after the annualisation of this series?
    B. Or was it before of after more teams got dedicated to the franchise (Two internal teams & one external) to help with said annualisation?
    C. Both.

Cynicism aside if EA do what Rocksteady (just them) did with Batman to Star Wars then thats good.

As nice as it is for EA that they want to try things, I’m already committed to not buying any Star Wars games because of Disney shutting down LucasArts without so much as fair warning or a chance to wrap up current projects.

We will have to see about that .. the last thing i want is for Battlefront to be battlefield with star wars skin.

EA, the company that had LOTR for ages and did fuck all with it (Other than crappy adaptations and cancelling a few projects) trying to show respect to Star Wars games? Riiighhht….

I think Wilson meant: “Annualized MP shooters with crappy singleplayer campaigns”. That and perhaps a few f2p SW games for mobile.
