FTL: Advanced Edition devs aiming for $10 price on iPad, is “pretty huge expansion”

FTL: Advanced Edition developer Subset Games has confirmed that it’s looking to launch the bolstered game on iPad for around $10. While the team recognises that this is deemed to be a ‘premium’ fee on mobile, it has stressed that the expanded content is vast.

Speaking with Joystiq, studio co-founder Justin Ma, reflected on the decision, saying, “Presumably the higher price point will make players a little bit more discerning on whether or not FTL will be something that they’re interested in. Which is funny, because we’re very expensive on iPad with the same price that’s extremely cheap on PC. It could even be the same users that have the different perception of what is a $10 game, just based on the system.”

Ma stressed that the new edition is a, “pretty huge expansion,” and includes content intended for the original game as well as a wealth of new features on top, such as a ‘Return to Stations’ command that sends crew members back to their positions, and the option to drag over all workers to move them all at once.

We’ll have more on FTL: Advanced Edition’s contents as it comes, but the team told the site to expect it “soon.”

What do you think of the price?

I think the price is very reasonable for what is one of the best games I’ve played in recent years.

If a version comes out on Android that’ll run on my 2013 Nexus 7 then I’ll happily pay £10, let alone $10. Hell frankly I’d be willing to pay more than £10 if I’m honest, especially if they chucked in the sound track too. That’s even considering I’ll get the update for free on PC because I’ve already bought it on that.

The platform shouldn’t matter. A good game is a good game, regardless.
