EverQuest Next – Landmark update brings fast travel, grouping and social

Thursday, 20th March 2014 21:41 GMT By Brenna Hillier

EverQuest Next – Landmark’s beta has been updated and this patch brings a bevy of much-requested features. Top of the list are various forms of teleport (fast travel), grouping, in-game mail, parties, and Facebook and Twitter integration. That’s just the beginning, though; full patch notes are available on the game’s forum. Landmark is a free-to-play world-building sandbox, and Sony Online Entertainment intends to use player creations in EverQuest Next itself.

That’s one of the things that makes this so amazing, right there. See, if you give people good tools with which to create things, they make amazing things. And that means a constant stream of jumping puzzles and interesting stuff to see and explore. Couple that with an MMO that just doesn’t have levels? I have hope that there’s still one, last chance for the MMO genre to have its moment.

That and it has a damned grappling hook. This is sounding like Champions Online with many of the flaws removed. All they really need to tell us now is that there’s some form of magic or item in Everquest Next that lets us fly, and that flying is a part of the combat.

Flying combat is thrilling, it’s the thing I loved most about Champions Online before that was destroyed. And yes, flying melee can work, too. Anyone who’s played CO knows that. Flying dive attacks are a thing!

You’re getting so close with this, SOE. Please don’t fuck it up.
