Monday, 17th March 2014 22:25 GMT By Mike Irving

The first trailer for the anime series based on Atelier Escha and Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky has been released.

This first video was shown at a Dengeki Game Festival over the weekend, and it was confirmed that several of the game’s voice actors, including those for Escha and Logy themselves, will reprise their roles in the series.

The Atelier Escha and Logy anime is due out in Japan in April.

Thanks, Siliconera.

So vibrant and warm, I have absolutely no idea of what it is beyond that it’s related to the Atelier RPGs I used to play. And I’m still interested. I can’t help it, it’s just that this kind of palette makes you feel good, it’s hard to explain. A friend and I were talking about this the other day, we encountered this lovely little coastal town in a JRPG — it had stalls, parasols, and lots of little details.

There was this magnificent sunset that cast a purpl-ish haze over everything, and waves licked at the character’s feet. It evokes things other than grimy dystopia, hatred, and war. It makes me wish that things had evolved from the ’90s, when Japan was the dominant provider of entertainment — before they became so insular and otaku-inclined. Basically, Japan started chasing the money, and it all sort of went downhill. Always the case, isn’t it?

Still, I dig the backgrounds, the warmth of it, and how vibrant it is. It’s ultimately feel good, it’s all about the feel goods, that’s what Japan does best in part. I mean, Skies of Arcadia, et al, which was one of the best games I’d ever played, to this day. Those were some special, lovely memories.

Damn it, Japan, stop making me even more wistful.
