Hobbit SFX crew teaming up with Petroglyph for Grey Goo

The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings special effects studio WETA Workshop has joined forces with strategy developer Petroglyph for a new project called Grey Goo.

PCGamer reports Grey Goo is a base-building, resource-harvesting RTS that focuses on macro decisions rather than micro-managing.

Petroglyph, best known for Mytheon and the Panzer General series, has drawn inspiration from MOBAs to make controls simpler, with nested menus grouped by type.

The project is being funded by a new, independent publisher called Grey Box, and is intended as the first piece of world building for other games set in the same universe, which is why WETA's been brought on to establish the look.

Only one faction has been detailed so far - the Beta, an industrialised alien race that uses heavy armour and artillery.

Check out the first teaser trailer below. Release date has not been confirmed.
