Home dev's horror dating sim actually happening

Home creator Benjamin Rivers has made good on a promise from almost one year ago, announcing horror dating sim Alone With You.

The project is in the very early stages and a release window and platforms have not been announced.

Eurogamer reports Alone With You is a sci-fi story following a gender-neutral protagonist stranded on an uninhabited planet. The astronaut's only companion is an AI.

It's not a straight-forward dating sim; Rivers said he wants to turn the dating sim concept "on its head a bit". As such, players don't participate in "an objectified quest to 'win' a character's heart".

Gameplay is narrative focused, with players making choices to advance the story, but it won't be like your average visual novel.

"If Home was a horror game without monsters or fail states, Alone With You will be like a dating sim without the usual trappings," Rivers said.

"The challenge I gave myself was to do this without creating a visual novel style game - I wanted to make something more familiar to core game players in terms of exploring environments, controlling a character, and so forth."

Following the success of Home, Rivers made a joke on Twitter about this unusual genre mash, and met with such a strong response that he went ahead with it.
