Thursday, 6th March 2014 12:21 GMT By Dave Cook

Watch Dogs will launch May 27 worldwide Ubisoft has confirmed, after the trailer announcing the date leaked ahead of time. Sony has also confirmed it will release bundles for the title in Europe.

Update 4

“We are pleased to be able to reveal to gamers all over the world the new release date for Watch Dogs™,” said Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA SVP of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “We are extremely confident that the additional time we afforded the dev team to refine and polish the game will be more than worth the wait.”

Players who purchase Watch Dogson either PlayStation 3 or PS4 will have exclusive access to 60 minutes of additional gameplay via the PSN.

“We’re really excited for the launch of Watch Dogs on both PS3 and PS4 and are confident that it will prove to be one of the standout games of 2014,” said SCEA’s Michael Pattison. “It’s a unique and visionary game and we believe that the exclusive content available via PSN will not only excite gamers, but showcase how PlayStation is a preferred destination for Watch Dogs.”

The bundles for Watch Dogs on PS4 and PS3. Shots of those are below.

Watch Dogs will be made available on May 27 for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

The Wii U version will release at a later date.

UPDATE 3: The above image comes from the Watch Dogs release date announcement trailer which leaked ahead of time on the Xbox 360′s dashboard preview. We’ve watched the clip, and it’s legitimate.

The trailer opens with Aidan Pearce talking about how he used to be the best hacker and thief around, but that all changed when he stumbled across something he was never meant to see, prompting an unknown organisation to put a hit out on him. The video also shows what appears to be the game’s villain, who looks like he heads up a sex trafficking ring. Aidan’s trying to use espionage to bring the guy down, it seems.

There’s some combat as Aidan batters goons with his baton, rides on top of a train and creates a rolling black out with his phone. It’s a slick trailer that should be dropping in an official capacity later today. Stay tuned.

UPDATE 2: We’ve just been informed that GAME Eastleigh posted a May 27 launch date today, before promptly pulling the listing. We’re trying to confirm the matter now. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: A new message on the Ubisoft Facebook page reads:

That’s 5pm UK, of course. Now; Ubisoft send us press releases almost every day at 5pm for one thing or another, but rarely do they tease it in this manner. This suggests it’s something big, but do keep an open, cautious mind until we know for sure.

More as it happens.

Cheers, Videogamer.

ORIGINAL STORY: It comes from this pop-up advert on PS Blog, which reads, “Find out the release date in this new trailer.”

Ubisoft’s press updates usually drop at 5pm each day, so we’ll hopefully know more then.

What sort of release date are you hoping for?

Expected early May but this will do just fine, although I have to say that they seriously downgraded those graphics from the initial reveal at E3 2012…. man fuck last gen and thank god Arkham 4 ditched it!

This looks even better than what was shown months ago, looks like Ubisoft has spent their time wisely IMO.

Current gen version for me, looking forward it!

    #19 10 months ago
  20. Moonwalker1982

@MrSec84 Uh…actually the exact opposite man. It clearly has been downgraded quite a bit from the 2013 footage, not to mention the E3 2012 footage….insane difference. Anti aliasing is better than last year, but all else seems less impressive. Lighting..where is it? I honestly thought i was watching a 360 trailer, cause it first leaked from there too. But it looked too good to be last-gen,but at the same time not good enough for current-gen.

Now Rockstar announces GTA V for PS4/XBox One with a May 20th release… BÄÄM!

But srsly… Great news, can’t wait for Chicago! :D

Seams they have down adjusted the visuals. This is not as impressive as shown earlier. It’s frankly kinda bad in some parts of the video. And how the story is presented is so cliche. It’s like watching a B-movie trailer. I don’t understand why game designers cant see they are making something as bad as this…they must be blind from working to much with their game or something.

My interest and hype meter for this game just went way way down. Going to be exciting to read some reviews from this when it’s out. One thing is for sure, I am not placing a pre-order for this game.

  23. Hcw87

Yeah, this is a huge downgrade. Same shit happened with Far Cry 3:

Ubisoft seems to be masters at overpromising shit.

    Getting it for PC though.

    #23 10 months ago
  24. jomac3db

I think this is 360 version. Better not be next gen looking this bad.

  25. MrSec84

    @Moonwalker1982 That’s your opinion, I just looked at Sony’s E3 2013:

Vs the video above & it’s not missing the lighting, you should go to 1:26 in the video on this page, it’s there, looks better too.

Most of the stuff from E3 2013 was at night, with water from where it’s been raining I think that’s what you’re noticing, why you & others may think there’s been a downgrade., but there hasn’t.
In the trailer above there’s a vast improvement in the depth of field effects.
You can see ray cast lighting beaming through the buildings effecting the environment, not sure how you missed it.
There’s improved texture to the character models, they also seem to have more depth to them.

It’s fine to have your opinion, but IMO it doesn’t gel with further viewings of the new trailer above.

    Hah hah hah! :)
That would be so funny. After that ubisoft says: watchdogs has been delayed, because we want to polish it a little. Further news coming next year.

I’m guessing you haven’t seen the E3 2012 demo or simply pretending it doesn’t exist?

    #27 10 months ago
  28. Legendaryboss

@Legendaryboss I think we all overlooked the fact that i was right a week ago! Let that sink in.

As for the release date, its okay.
The downgrade? Far Cry 3 Type of situation? It shouldn’t bother me because i enjoyed Far Cry 3 for what it was, probably would have enjoyed it more for what it could have been but oh well.

    #28 10 months ago
  29. MrSec84

    @Edo yep I’ve seen the 2012 trailer/gameplay from that E3 & I’m not pretending about anything.

There’s one effect the trailer above seems to not feature & that’s the substance/dust sweeping across the environments, but this could be for any number of reasons, considering the game has various weather effects.

  30. Mike W

Hmmmm… does seem a little bit off, but maybe that was the 360/PS3 versions (I hope).

Let’s wait and see what they say and show with the current gen versions…

    #30 10 months ago
  31. Edo

Character facial animation looks more robotic(lifeless)the overall character animations look less detailed(the same with the environment) ,no bokeh depth of field(or least I didn’t notice any).

    #31 10 months ago
  32. MrSec84

@Edo in the new trailer the character’s faces look far less plastic, look at the Neogaf thread Dark linked, someone’s actually done a comparison of E3 2012.
The quality of the animation, looking at what’s been seen in past trailers looks identical, not sure what you’re picking up on, but I don’t see any difference there, same motion, not robotic too me.

As far as bokeh goes, image blurring, convincing focus is all there, it’s not as overly emphasized in this trailer as it has been in past once, but that gives this a more dramatic, film-like effect, rather than the over the top stuff of past trailers.

The level of DOF is a choice, just like a film director will focus in on the characters in some scenes, just seems like this trailer’s got more subtlety to it on that side of things.

  35. BeenThere_DoneThat

That’s a huge downgrade. Will most likely still pick it up, but not day 1 if reviews aren’t 85+

    #35 10 months ago
  36. TheKeyPit

It’s probably current-gen, because it looks a lot like gta5.

Really man, when it comes to this…it’s not even about opinions anymore. Look at this, it is shocking.

Honestly have not seen this coming.

  38. the Bridgeburner

That gif? Really? * facepalm *

    A freakin’ gif that’s largely believed to be spliced with last-gen, i.e. PS360, footage? I know there’s a downgrade from ’12′s tech demo, but c’mon, that’s a horrible example.

    #38 10 months ago
  39. Moonwalker1982

@the Bridgeburner Actually it all comes from here man:

The daytime stuff looks quite alright, but nighttime…omfg. No way the daytime stuff is last-gen consoles.

    #39 10 months ago
  40. MrSec84

@Edo That’s not PS4, Xbox One or PC gameplay, it has none of the reflections, detail or effects that the current or nextgen (in the case of PC) versions of the game .

Eurogamer has a play through of one of the low income districts of Chicago & it looks nothing like the GIF you posted:

So no we’re not done because you pulled a gif, which isn’t of the same quality as even a youtube video.

    #40 10 months ago
  41. MrSec84

@Moonwalker1982 Again that gif is seriously lacking in clarity, the Eurogamer link I posted to Edo looks great, it has the reflections, great detail & looks looks pretty awesome.

The neogaf screen caps support that too.

It’s funny none of these recent videos have rain in them or the dusty weather effects, but that stuff can easily still be in there.
Everything else looks better, seems like it’s taken a step up.

At this point your argument seems to be that there isn’t the sheen from rain or dust blowing in the wind & that’s where your argument ends.

    #41 10 months ago
  42. MrSec84

I just realized that eurogamer play through was from last year, but still it looks identical to what was shown in the story trailer above, no downgrade in the gameplay above, it’s just not a part of the game set in a rainy scene or with dust blowing.

This too me shows that Ubisoft has made a game where environment is effected by the weather.
