Affordable Space Adventures is in the works for Wii U from Knytt Underground creator Nicklas “Nifflas” Nygren and Spin the Bottle developer KnapNok Games.

The atmospheric exploration stealth puzzler where players will configure and control a space craft, trying all the while to remain undetected.

The game contains multiple difficulty levels and can be played in co-op.

Affordable Space Adventures promised to use the Wii U GamePad “in a meaningful way.”

You can have a look at it in the video below, and check out an interview with the developers over on IndieGames.

This looks absolutely lovely, but aside from the looks, I have worries. Nifflas has been a bit of a one-trick pony. Knytt was amazing, and Knytt Stories was pretty great too (even if the best stuff for that was player created levels). After that, though… he kind of went downhill and hasn’t managed to create anything genuinely interesting since.

It’s like he’s forgotten that fun exploration with lots of discover was his strong suit. And this doesn’t look nearly as evocative as any one screen from Knytt did. I hope I’m wrong, maybe I am. But if I’m not, I hope we’ll see a return to form for him, one of these days, because Knytt really was all that.
