The Xbox One Media Remote has been announced by Microsoft.

Outed earlier this month on Amazon, the remote will be released across Xbox One markets worldwide in early March.

It allows the user to control video playback for Blu-ray movies and streaming video on the console, and had dedicated Back and OneGuide buttons.

“The OneGuide button provides one-touch, quick access to your favorite TV shows and movies through the Xbox program guide,” reads the official description. “The Media Remote can also control TV/Receiver power and volume through Kinect, which uses IR blasting to send signals to your TV and/or receiver.

“As you pick up the remote, the motion-activated backlit buttons illuminate, allowing it to be used in the darkest of rooms while playing games, watching TV shows, movies and more.”

The Xbox One Media Remote will retail for $24.99 in the US and will be made available in stores around the world.

I thought your voice was supposed to be the only remote the Xbox One needed. Is that the whole gimmick of the console? What you’re paying the extra £100 for?

I thought the idea of Xbox one kinect was to use your voice to do all that stuff

Can’t win can you? You aren’t forced to buy it, so don’t.

Surely this muddles the messaging over how far advanced (supposedly) the Xdick’s voice and gesture control is?

Microsoft really are making a pig’s ear of this gen, and anybody who likes (let alone purchases) their products is no doubt on course to join the Church of Scientology.

Save your money Kingy, lest wait for more games to come out before you decide.

Also, sorry to X1 fans, but I can’t help have the same reaction to this…wasn’t Kinect supposed to replace the need for buttons? Weren’t you the controller? Guess all controllers need buttons.

I’m sure the NSA is pissed about this. People may be less likely to talk to their XBone thus the NSA’s profile on each and every user may lack the voice/language details. Oh wait… Mobile phones…..

This is truly funny, all the people here bitching that “I thought voice was the only remote I needed,” well for fuck sake they can’t win. What’s wrong with giving people options? There is kinect in the box to use motion controls. However they do give people a game controller. There is a kinect in the box for voice communication…right. However they did give people an option for a headset. Why does everyone on the internet need to bitch every opportunity they get?

It’s black and small so it’s going to get lost like every other remote. Hopefully MS placed a “Xbox where is the remote” command for it.

@dontbescaredhomie92 I love life. I also love smiling. It’s my favorite. Also, Tool is an amazing band. I wish Maynard would stop with the wine business and work on another album.

Thought it would of been hard for you to smile in this world of oppression and surveillance we live in so well done.

“What’s wrong with giving people options? ”

MS should have given people a Kinectless X1 option at retail. They would have faired much better.

it’s funny how a simple remote lures the fat kids out of their moms basement to give their biased opinion which noone cares about. go on facebook and post your garbage there, at least the NSA will care
