Nintendo’s Year of Luigi event is drawing to a close, with an end date set for next month.
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced the end of the event on Miiverse, according to IGN, setting a March 18 cut off for fan posts in the Year of Luigi Community or Developers’ Room.
“Thanks to everyone’s kind support, we were able to release many Luigi games over the course of the year,” Miyamoto wrote.
“I hope everyone continues to cheer for the green brother.”
The Year of Luigi was a promotional event which highlighted multiple Luigi-themed releases including Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Dr. Luigi, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and DLC pack New Super Luigi U.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata’s phrase “in this, the year of our Luigi” became something of a meme amongst gamers and press, particularly when decrying something.
