Square Enix keen to bring more Final Fantasy games to PC in future

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is doing well on PC right now, and series producer Yoshinori Kitase has expressed interest in bringing more games from the franchise to PC down the line.

It follows Final Fantasy 14 going half-price on Steam. The offer’s still on at the time of writing.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Kitase said, “Let’s not forget, when we developed the Final Fantasy 13 series, all three titles, at the early stages of development we were working on PC.

“Then we had to port it to the consoles. As far as the technology is concerned, it would have been possible for us to make a PC version, but we decided against it for two reasons: we looked at the market situation and we didn’t think it would be a good idea, and also it would have involved lots of complex issues like security. So we decided not to do it this time around.

“But we see potential in it and there are lots of regions and countries where PC is very strong. So in terms of our hope of being able to deliver our games to every single country in the world and to as many gamers as possible, yes, we would definitely be interested in pursuing that route in the future.”

You can also currently get HD re-releases of Final Fantasy 7 and 8 on Steam, but would you like to see more of the series on PC? Let us know below.

    Hm… bring FF15 and KH3 to PC and I’ll have 2 reasons less to get a PS4.

It’s really dumb to not release something on any platform, honestly. Cross-compiling is easy, as is building an options menu, and I know this from experience. Platinum Games, who’d never built a PC game before, did so very effortlessly with Revengeance. And not only that, but they did a really good job, too. I love them for that.

So it’s just financially stupid to not do that. Especially since you have a lot of the old guard on the PC who’d actually enjoy that more than the current console audience, who prefer Western AAA efforts. Honestly, the only other place I think that those fans exist is probably in the Wii U/3DS space.

And what with the PC developer renaissance going on, now, it’s a good time to experiment.
