Rust developer tinkering with Xbox One devkits

Wednesday, 12th February 2014 22:03 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Rust developer FacePunch Studios is in receipt of Xbox One development kits, but is a long way off confirming a console port for the survival sandbox.

Founder Garry Newman thanked Microsoft for the development kits on Twitter. He was then asked by Kotaku’s Stephen Totilo whether he intended to bring Rust to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, or whether he was “just tinkering”.

“A bit of both,” Newman replied.

“Neither have an Early Access program as far as I know – so anything we do is a while off.”

Rust is currently in alpha on Steam Early Access, and it’s still not entirely clear what direction it will evolve in. This hasn’t stopped it selling 1 million units, though.

Thanks, Joystiq.

Don’t know what to think… First people are going mental about bugs in a ‘final’ product and now 1million copies sold in Alpha state. It’s an up-side-down world all of a sudden.

People know they are buying an alpha which has the potential to be a great game (it is still very fun even in its alpha state)

With BF4 it was advertised as a finished product hence the backlash which occurred when it clearly wasn’t.
With Rust the players just brush the bugs off if they occur since the game isn’t finished and the players know what the bought in to.
