The third and final trailer in the series of videos focusing on the narrative and characters in the game, focuses on the Thief Taker General, Commander of the Baron’s Watch.

His main motive according to the developers is “to hunt and hang every thief in the city, and he is hell-bent on capturing the prize that he desires most: Garrett, the Master Thief.”

This corrupt general uses fear “to enforce an exorbitant ‘black tax’ on members of the underworld” and those who don’t pay will find themselves at the end of a noose.

See for yourself below.

Thief releases on February 28 in North America and Europe on PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

They tried to make a Thief:TDP or Thief II style of a cutscene… and it is just too flashy and the biggest villain in this game is a moron.
He is basically a stupid dictator that kills people in some meat factory for money.

WTF is this? WHERE IS MY CONSTANTINE AND VICTORIA SQUARE ENIX?

It’s sad that the only thing to steal the show in this trailer was a moustache.

No, really, I was looking for any unique elements. There’s the usual fixation on white people (hooray), and the excessive desaturation to the point where we might as well all be using black & white tellies again (because there would honestly be no real loss), there’s the city stolen right from Dishonored…

And, what else? Well, there’s Aryan Garrett, again. Hooray. And… and… um…

    Yeah.

    No thanks.

    Sorry.

@Erthazus – For someone that hasnt even played the game yet, you sure seem to hate it,. Almost every thief article you complain about it. As a huge thief fan, I’ll give it a chance before I deride it. yeah, I may not have gone the directions they have but it still might be a good game, we shall see.

I just wanted to add to the point about the city. I’m disgusted with how much of a direct rip-off it is. Thief never looked like that, its technology and architecture were always cleaner, it was never exactly a dystopia. People knew how to clean up after themselves, at least. It didn’t always feel like a shit hole.

But that feeling of infinite detritus, mixed with the patchwork, black metal? That’s Dishonored. It’s shameless. We give iOS developers shit for cloning the aesthetics of other iOS apps, so why doesn’t this apply to the mainstream? Personally I find it disgraceful just how much of a rip off it actually is. It didn’t just borrow ideas, no, it is (perhaps aptly) wholesale thievery.

Add to that the feeling of plague and disease which was never really a Thief thing, either. Thief’s duality was how it was torn between dealing with the more hidden paranormal elements, and taking advantage of rich, everyday figures of authority. Dishonored, by comparison, was less subtle, it was like a sledgehammer over the head. Instead of a creeping danger, it was a constant threat creating a depressing dystopia.

And that’s exactly what this is. I remember Thief being about the big scores, and sometimes how they’d get you entangled in messes beyond your understanding or station, and that’s what made them fun. You weren’t Robin Hood trying to right the wrongs of a plague-filled world, it was never that.

So this is just Dishonored. Wholesale thievery of Dishonored.

Perhaps they got too into the mindset of the thief.

@fearmonkey because there is nothing so far that makes me say “Woah, this is awesome!” It’s too flashy with stupid villains although Thief 1 does not have super incredible villain’s either but it was dark and spooky. There were zombies, occultism and lot’s of magic.

I remember just now the mission “Return to the Cathedral” where you steal the dark eye that speaks some crazy shit about you in the haunted cathedral where everyone is against you.

And what we have here? Some crazy DUDE killing people for no other reason then money. He kill’s them in a meat factory for some cheap gold. WTF is this?

@fearmonkey … but, but Garrett is white!

@Erthazus: Your “explanation” doesn’t excuse the fact that you haven’t played it, so most of the stuff you say is made up, or just exaggerated. But at least you’re not as pathetic as that other guy.

So in the words of one beautiful redhead: You know nothing.

@YoungZer0 What explanation? I know almost everything about this game except for the AI and how big are the levels.
right now I’m commenting on the story trailer that represents Thief I cutscenes and I see what I see. Stupid baron that is killing people for gold for no real reason other then being fat and glorious little king and that is a childish aproach for a Thief game.
Previous villains were not that stupid even in cutscenes.

@Erthazus Forget it. You’re pretty proud of your high level of ignorance and I won’t bother further.
