@ianos too short review for a RPG game

I don’t need to look at the scores too much for this one, the demo and the previous games already sold it to me. Call me crazy but FFXIII is the second best FF for me (and I played most of them)

WOW. I’m happy that you’re happy I guess, but for me, the series has been deteriorating since at least FFIX, with FFX and XII being playable and sometimes quite fun, but not as brilliant as its predecessors, to the complete genericness and blandness of FFXIII. My interest in the series is on life support now, and this game isn’t going to change that (as a matter of fact FFXIV won’t change that either, since I abhor MMO’s). Will have to see about FFXV, but I’m not optimistic after what I already saw from SE.

    Speaking about JRPG’s however…

A potential Suikoden VI would be a completely different story for me. Konami is limping right now, with basically just MGS and a struggling PES franchise to keep it afloat outside Japan, and they could at least give Suikoden VI a shot, cause many people would buy it to support their beloved franchise, and I don’t even think they would need to spend a fortune making that game. Just update the graphics, maybe introduce a few new mechanics, update w couple of things and stay true to the series formula…Would be a must buy for me.

“Modern” FF almost killed my RPG passion too.. but then I discovered the “Tales..” games.

I’m actually a little surprised by the reviews so far. I expected arbitrary high marks by association.

I really do miss the JRPG genre. There are games coming out, and many of them are great, but they’re not the same level of greatness as the Final Fantasy franchise in its golden age.

I’m sure I’m missing some, but in the past several years, I’ve played Tales of Xillia, Valkyria Chronicles (if it counts), The Last Story, Xenoblade Chronicles, and the Hyperdimension Neptunia games. I’ve also started going back to play old JRPGs I either played a long time ago, or never played when they came out. I got through most of Persona 2 and Persona 4 (can’t seem to bring myself to actually finish them), I beat Suikoden I and Suikoden II, and right now I’m replaying FF6 (as FF3, the way it was released in the U.S.).

Aside from obvious franchises I miss, I really wish Shadow Hearts was still around, and more importantly, being worked on by people that understand and appreciate that franchise. I loved that series from the very first game. Gameplay was fun, it was a neat melding of history and fantasy that seemed to be evolving from a very gothic form to one that changes with the time period of its setting. But, knowing my luck if it did get picked up, it’d be by a company that screws it up so badly, I’d regret wanting it revived at all.

Looks about above average. I enjoyed the demo so i’ll be picking this, but at a bargain bin price which will quick i reckon.

@deathm00n: WOW! I can’t believe it man. I’ve played FF VII, X, XII and XIII and XIII was so bad that I feel traumatised and violated after having played it. Broken in so many demonstrable ways.

It’s like a fucking free-to-play game where the option to pay to speed it up has been removed.

But sorry, if you enjoyed it, more power to you man. Just had to get that off my chest. /exhales

Gamefly has already sent it. I will be getting it within the next few days. I enjoyed the demo as far as the combat goes but I would rather just let this chapter of the series die. MY interest with the series is now on life support and the only keeping me from pulling the plug is FFXV.

I bet all you owners of a nice shiny new PS4 just love watching the PS3 get this game. This is just like GT, always releasing their newest game months after the launch of a new system,.

@DarkElfa oh no! They are finishing a trilogy on the same system they started it on… THE HORROR!

PS3 will be getting quality games for a while yet, just like the PS2 did during the first years of the PS3.

@Telepathic.Geometry Reminds me of when I first played FFX-2. :P With such excellent games that came before it, and the excitement of seeing an actual direct continuation for once, there was just so much to look forward to that in the beginning I was just simply in denial. Not “man, this is awesome” denial, but more like “well… this is Final Fantasy, it’ll get better, I know it” denial. I remember actually being embarrassed that someone might see me playing it at the time.

@DarkElfa Squeenix will re-release all three games as a PS4 and Xbox One bundle a year or two from now. Unless they decide to make yet another game. But even then it’s likely they’ll make the next game on PS4 and XBox One and put out a bundle for the two systems as a precursor to the new game.
