3DS sales top 15 million in Japan, Diablo 3 debuts close to chart top – Media Create

Nintendo’s 3DS has passed a significant sales milestone in Japan, and this week’s Media Create sales charts show a fair bit of movement in the frequently static market.

It’s been quite a while since the charts appeared during my shift rather than the US one, so it’s interesting to see how much has changed in the intervening months; the charts are almost entirely populated with new or recent releases, with the 3DS managing nine of the top twenty games. That’s a very different market from the one that threw up the same months- or years-old Wii games week after week, with the PS3 lazily surfacing to produce a hit now and then. The 3DS having so much impact over the last 12 months suggests the Japanese market at present reacts favourably to new hardware, so it’ll be great to tune in in the months after next-gen launches.

Here’s the full software chart for January 27 to February 02. Life-to-date sales are in parentheses:

  1. [PS3] Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Full Boost(Bandai Namco Games, 30/01/2014 – 269,940 (NEW)
