Mount & Blade developer Taleworlds has announced today that it’s parting ways with publisher Paradox. The Swedish publisher is also offering owners of Mount & Blade a Steam Early Access copy of Magicka: Wizard Wars as a parting gift.

Publisher Paradox broke the news on the official Mount & Blade forum saying, “As of January 31st at 00:00 (UTC -08:00) Paradox Interactive will be handing over the reins for Mount and Blade back to the developer, TaleWorlds. It’s been five and a half years since Mount and Blade was released, five and a half years of sieges, tournaments and pitched open-field battles, and of course, the odd expansion or two!

“We feel honoured to have fought beside you and at our final parting of ways would bid our farewells with a gift which has automatically been added to your Steam library.”

The gift it’s referring to is a Steam Early Access copy of the Paradox North developed Magicka: Wizard Wars, though it is unclear at this time which Mount & Blade game you have to own to be eligible for this offer. The Swedish publisher also added that it will be shutting down access to the Mount & Blade forums, for them to be later removed altogether.

Taleworlds is currently working on Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord.

Thanks, Polygon.

I was concerned when I read the headline, but in fact, this is good news. It’s an amicable parting of a developer from a publisher whose assistance is no longer needed to deliver the M&B franchise, and (the developer, Taleworlds mentioned) has no negative effect to existing Mount & Blade owners, who will notice no change.
