Left 4 Dead 2 rebuilt in Source Engine 2.0, according to leaked image - rumour

Left 4 Dead 2, or at least one level of it, has been rebuilt in Valve's Source Engine 2.0, according to a supposed leak.

Destructoid has a copy of a leaked slide showing what appears to be the Plantation level of Left 4 Dead 2, labelled "rebuilt in Source 2.0". The site has also posted a comparison with the current build, which looks pretty sad in comparison.

The image was posted on NeoGAF by a known and generally reliable contributor, but, of course, cannot be verified as real.

Even if the slide does originate with an internal Valve presentation, it does not confirm that Valve intends to re-release Left 4 Dead 2, or that Left 4 Dead 3 is in the works, as rebuilding sections of existing titles is a common exercise when testing new development tools.

That said, there's plenty of evidence suggesting that Half-Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 are indeed in the works at Valve - although at what stage of development nobody can say.

Whenever we catch ourselves doubting the existence of these projects we remember that SteamOS is nearly upon us and needs a killer app. Just sayin'.
