PS Now: retailer GAME views it as an “opportunity,” interest in streaming teased

Tuesday, 21st January 2014 12:18 GMT By Dave Cook

Sony’s PlayStation Now cloud streaming service is very much on the radar of UK retailer GAME. While you might think a game streaming service would make a bricks and mortar retail chain sweat profusely, the chain’s chief digital officer Ian Chambers sees PS Now as an opportunity.

Speaking with MCV, Chambers discussed the PS Now service and expressed hopes for GAME to be involved somehow.

“I’m not going to rule anything in or out right now,” he told the site, and added, “What I will say is that if you look back across the past 18 months, you’ll see that GAME has a history of innovating. Whether it’s our lock-in series, our award-winning app, our m-commerce site, our Get Gaming Quicker service or our new digital infrastructure, we’ve shown we understand what gaming communities want and that we are capable of delivering this for them.”

When looking at PS Now, Chambers explained, “We view it very much as an opportunity. Since the launch of subscriptions to services offered by Microsoft and Sony, GAME has been fundamental to their success,”

Would you like to see retail chains get involved in services like PS Now? What form might that take? Theorise below.

“GAME has a history of innovating”

That is the most hilarious thing I’ve heard all day!

You could say they have simply moved with the times. Let’s face it, they have had to do all those “innovative” things to stay afloat…
