Aliens: Colonial Marines surges in slumping UK charts

Monday, 13th January 2014 09:52 GMT By Matt Martin

As the post-Christmas release drought continues, old releases climb up the charts following price promotions. FIFA 14 remains No.1.

Aliens: Colonial Marines and Sony’s Killzone: Shadowfall have both climbed back up the UK charts, with Sega’s shooter now selling at an average price of less than £5.

The latest Killzone jumped due to renewed PS4 stock at retail, while titles such as Dead Island: Riptide, Max Payne 3, Grid 2, Gears of War: Judgement and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Legendary all did well in the sales.

EA’s FIFA 14 stayed at number one with a drop in sales of 32 per cent, followed by Call of Duty: Ghosts, where sales dropped 41 per cent. Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag saw sales tumble 48 and 52 per cent, respectively.

The top ten follows:

01 FIFA 14
02 Call of Duty: Ghosts
03 Battlefield 4
04 Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
05 Grand Theft Auto V
06 Lego Marvel Super Heroes
07 Need For Speed Rivals
08 Killzone Shadow Fall
09 Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
10 Aliens: Colonial Marines

This would be inverse to the decline in reading ability in the UK. Since you’d have to be illiterate not to have read somewhere what a dire pile of crap that game was.
Worst release of 2013, second only to SIM CITY. Except Sim City fixed it’s bugs.

“with Sega’s shooter now selling at an average price of less than £5″

And it’s still too much. Really sad how cutting the price of a bag of shit and lies can help it sell. To think TimeGate had to make this game in a short time and with limited budget, catch flack for it, then end up closing down and THEN Gearbox using that money for Borderlands and buying Homeworld while said game keeps selling makes me want to vomit.

EVERY time I consider Alien games or Gearbox, I’ll remember THIS horror, a cautionary remnant that sprang on to my screen during a worst of 2013 video. I didn’t realise before, that there existed such a blatantly smug portrait of Gearbox’s reveling in their “participation” and its outcome!

Thanks for my apprehension around future Alien titles can be directed to the team that SHOWED it couldn’t project manage its way out of a queue for the bus, and its arrogant, smirking leader, Pitchford. And SEGA are complicit in it for responsibility as publisher, too. They haven’t been seen to do anything but CONDONE the treatment of the property and demonstrated total lack of interest in the people that bought Colonial Marines. “It’s fine, guys, we can still sell DLC…!” Hell, that same publisher in sega then went on to oversee Total War Rome II! xD

@1 Sorry, Rome 2 was the worst release of 2013. Another Sega cock up. You’d think they would learn. 2013 hasn’t been a good year, with Company of Heroes also fairing badly.
