Xbox One direct Twitch streaming still a few months away

Thursday, 9th January 2014 02:23 GMT By Brenna Hillier

When is Twitch direct broadcast coming to Xbox One? Not for a good few months yet, the service has warned.

In a tweet, Twitch said it’s still waiting on Microsoft.

“There is no ETA at this time from Microsoft. Expect a few more months. If we know sooner, we’ll update,” a representative said.

Meanwhile, native Twitch streaming on PlayStation 4 has become hugely popular, to the discomfort of detractors of Sony’s focus on easy socialisation.

The Xbox One does have its own native video sharing service, which allows users to edit videos and upload them to Xbox Live.

Thanks, Polygon.

    As already available on Shield.

With the direction tech seems to be taking now, the above statement will probably become my mantra.

At the end of the day MS is trying to promote their own feed service.. they are hardly going to play ball with a separate entity as long as the possibility remains that they can steal some audience.. doesn’t matter how convenient it would for their paying customers, or what the better service actually is.. they are more than willing to cause them inconvenience til they’ve exhausted that possibility.

Peeps seriously have to stop buying MS HW… all they do is seek to screw over their customers for their own benefit.

Well, if I didn’t believe in what I said, it would be called trolling, and it’s not a good enough of a troll to have been worth the effort to have made it up.

So yeah, it’s an honest opinion.

Is Twitch support really big with PS4? As in many PS4 owners use it? I do like Let’s Plays (I know…) but only for a handful of games like Spelunky and Binding of Isaac so don’t know much about console LP scene.

Twitch is ok I suppose. What Sony needs to do is take a cue from MS and let you edit the damn videos. It’s really intuitive on X1 and makes watching clips bearable.

@4 It’s only been out a few weeks, but according to Twitch PS4 streaming makes up about 20% of the site’s streaming content, so that’s pretty decent. Twitch is a pretty huge site, with some channels managing upwards of 100,000 consecutive viewers at any one time.

Microsoft’s handling of this is pretty embarrassing. It’s streaming. It’s not bloody rocket science. Surely they can tap into the infinite powah of the cloud or some bullshit.

Man if only MS had a massive bank of cloud servers to rely on.

I find it sweet that X1 owners find a way to make it seem they don’t need something the moment there Xbone finds it hard to do.

Twitch is massively important. The few weeks on PS4 and already it’s a big part of the service.

Sony truly is schooling MS.. It’s kinda shameful actually. Don’t worry though, denile is the next best thing.

    Microsoft hate is so ’98!

Geez, how is it any different from any other corporation that is moving into cloud-based tech.

300 000 dedicated servers is nothing to put your nose up at no matter which you spin it!

If you think “cloud” is bullshit, do some research before poo-pooing forward thinking network engineers. I know I’m no expert…

FYI. You can edit videos on PS4 you can do it right before you share it.

And, I wouldn’t say no one needs Twitch. I actually scheduled a time with my mother to stream the new Alien game when it releases so she can watch me play. That’s not something you got with older consoles before and is a great way to share experiences.
