Titanfall won’t have mod support at launch, but Respawn to reevaluate

Titanfall isn’t going to release with mod support, but Respawn Entertainment hasn’t ruled out the possibility.

Responding to a query on Twitter, Respawn boss Vince Zampella said mod and mapping tools won’t be available at launch “for sure”.

“Will have to evaluate after launch,” he said.

Titanfall is headed to PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and while not impossible it seems unlikely that the console versions would include modding of any kind – leaving only the PC audience to benefit from the substantial effort required to develop and support tools.

That said, Titanfall is being built on a modified version of the Source Engine, which is natively highly supportive of user-generated content.

Titanfall is coming in March; we’re still not fully informed on its classes and gameplay, but Respawn did reveal some details on sniping over the holidays, noting that no-scoping and quick-scoping are ineffective.

Thanks, PCGamer.

    This means:

‘I assure you we wont have mod support, but we are trying to look nice by saying we might’

I mean, why have mod support when they themselves can just charge people if they want more out of the game… I imagine its most devs worst nightmare these days to wake up and see there customers enjoying something free which they had no involvement in making a profit from.

With EA and MS behind it, I’m surprised they are even allowed to talk about mods. It’s sad to see so much hate towards modding from major publishers (worst of all MS, the one who should be championing them). Seriously, modding is THE exclusive feature that makes PCs better than consoles.

Playing Witcher 3 at 60fps in 4k might be nicer but the game is the same. Fanboys can brag about 4k resolutions and super ultra graphics on their elite computers that crush PS4 / XB1 visuals but in the end, those don’t really matter (When taking the price different into account).

What DOES matter and IS a truly different experience, is the modding. Mods aren’t just simple improvements like higher graphics. They are new experiences and in many, many cases, NEW GAMES within old ones.
