Nidhogg gets new trailer, long-awaited release date

Lo-fi but deeply charming sword fighting indie Nidhogg arrives on Steam in under a fortnight.

According to the new trailer below, the side-scrolling versus title arrives on Steam on January 13. Platforms weren't listed, so Linux and Mac users should cross their fingers.

It looks like the home version of Nidhogg will have several map areas and a tournament mode; we're awaiting confirmation of rumoured online multiplayer.

Like all the best versus titles, Nidhogg is quite simple in premise, with few moves available, but turns into a tense, strategic face-off when players go head to head - or even when facing AI. It's been doing the festival circuit for ages now, winning hearts and firing loins, and we had expected it to arrive before the end of 2013 - but what's two weeks between friends? (And I hope we are friends. If not, en garde.)

Thanks, PlayerAttack.
