Get Even: Painkiller dev reveals next-gen shooter, first images inside

Monday, 23rd December 2013 12:29 GMT By Dave Cook

Get Even is the new PC and next-gen shooter from Painkiller: Hell & Damnation studio The Farm 51. The developer has released its first batch of screens. Check them out here.

NeoGAF spotted that the images had appeared on The Farm 51′s site and Facebook hub.

The studio revealed in a Google translated blurb that Get Even looks to “remove the artificial boundary between modes of single and multiplayer,” and added that online players will be able to join a person’s single-player campaign at any time. The shooter also houses two campaigns, showing the story from the perspective of two separate soldiers.

We’ve got Get Even screens below. There’s no release window set so far, but we’ll update you if that changes any time soon.

Thanks Dragon.

OK, let’s clear things out. I think it’s wrong to call Farm 51 “Painkiller devs”.

They made a remade version. Original (the best) Painkiller is made by People Can Fly – guys who later did Gears 1 PC port and Bulletstorm, and now are called Epic Games Poland, and most of them formed The Astronauts and are doing The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

    Huh :P

@1 Yes, I know this, but it’s the game people would likely associate them with most recently, no? ;)

Hope single players can block online folk from barging in unwanted or uninvited.

“remove the artificial boundary between modes of single and multiplayer,”

Let’s see. NFS Rivals, Watch_Dogs, Destiny… Yeah, we have new next-gen fad. Hope these idiots realize that some gamers actually WANT those boundaries (Who am I kidding? This is a continuation of last gen’s fetish for adding crappy multiplayer modes to singleplayer games like Batman Arkham 3 and Dead Space 2).

So in image #3 you can see he small feed TV on the gun. And the image appears to be a few moments after what is happening in real time gameplay. So the gun not only shoots around corners but it sees into the future?

Notice in video game the bald guy is reaching for his gun in the back of his belt while soldier has gun pointed at his head. but in the small video feed on gun it shows bald guy has his gun pulled out and shooting soldier who now has gun tilted upward.

One Polish website got to take a closer look.

It’s assimetrical multiplayer. One person is more traditional FPS hero, but the other is an observator. You watch as your enemy progresses through level and you choose the NPC soldier you want to “take over”, and then you can fight the hero as that NPC.

I have seen the game on 13th Dec and that’s when stories and assets were published on the polish media websites.

First of all – most recent big game made by The Farm 51 is Deadfall Adventures. You could just check the article about the dev on the Wikipedia…

Second thing – game is using unique terrain and object scanning technology which provides actual photo-realistic graphics. When I saw one of the locations – abandoned building with graffiti, broken walls and ceilings I was more than impressed. I can just recon how STALKER would look like thanks to this technology.

Third – multi component is not forced! But I have to admit that arguments used by the devs to convince audience to the idea were solid. Long story short – allowing other person to join your adventure, enhances the immersion and overall experience.

Fourth – It is probably first game to use so-called corner shot.

And last tiny info. Game runs on Unreal Engine, they are planning to release the game in 2015. Here you have the FB page:

Full Text, – Translation by Dave1988 from NeoGAF:

The graphics of Get Even are achieved by using 3D scans of real locations and people. To develop this innovative technology, our studio works with research institutes and independent specialists. This will mark the first time where this technology is used on such a scale in video games. The technology present in Get Even by The Farm 51 has been first presented to the audiences during the Paris Game Connection where it has been well-received.

Get Even also strives to offer a fresh approach to game mechanics. The developers plan to remove the arbitrary barrier between single and multiplayer modes by linking them together in a unique way. In the singleplayer campaign, other players will be able to join the game at any moment to take on the roles of enemies previously controlled by the AI. Thanks to this, the singleplayer campaign, often schematic and predictable in other games, enters a new dimension where the player has to face the most dangorous of all foes: another player who has his own reasons and tools to stop you from reaching your goal.

The approach to story telling in Get Even also strives for innovation. The player is given the chance to experience the events that transpire in the singleplayer campaign from the perspective of two opposing protagonists. What is more, gameplay will differ based upon the choice of a side and the story of the game will be told through elements of gameplay, exploration, and interacting with the environment rather than the standard usage of cutscenes and dialogues.

That means totally DarkSouls style, imho….
