Star Wars: Attack Squadrons is a flight combat title from new studio Area 52 Games. It’s free and coming to PC in 2014, with a beta expected in due course.

The game sees up to 16-players dogfighting in a selection of iconic ships from the Star Wars flicks, including X-Wings and Tie Fighters. Players can engage in three competitive modes; Free For All, Team Dogfight and Base Defense and earn points that can be spent on ship customisation and new items.

Beta sign-ups are being accepted now over on the Star Wars: Attack Squadrons site, with a testing phase due at some point next year.

What do you think of the concept so far?

Afte all that waiting. After all those great games like Republic Commando, Battlefront etc. they show us THIS? A lame trailer of a F2P game that looks like running on a tablet? Is the world gone crazy? I really fear what Disney will do to Battlefront…

I wish they just remake the old Xwing serie, enhance the graphics and make a great campaign with co-op and a decent multiplayer. This would be the most amazaing Star Wars game ever, period!
