World of Darkness project sheds more staff, no update on MMO

EVE Online and DUST 514 developer CCP has confirmed 15 job cuts, all from the World of Darkness development team.

CCP confirmed the cuts with GamesIndustry, with Ned Coker providing the following statement:

“CCP today made strategic adjustments to the staffing on the team working on the World of Darkness project in Atlanta that resulted in the elimination of approximately 15 positions at the company. The change was due to our evaluation of the game’s design and ongoing development needs,” he said.

“While this was a difficult decision, CCP remains committed to the franchise and our promise to make a compelling, rich, and deep World of Darkness experience.”

World of Darkness was announced in November 2006 as CCP’s second game when RPG publisher White Wolf merged with the EVE Online developer. It’s in the works at CCP’s Atlanta studio but in 2011 CCP made a significant reduction to its workforce, resulting in World of Darkness’s progress continuing at a much slower rate – this despite rumours of a 2010 launch and leaked footage.

CCP insists the development team is still triple-A sized, and brought footage to CCP Fanfest 2012, proving that it is still in active development and admitting it is playable.

    CCP insists the development team is still triple-A sized (as of last year, maybe – although the article doesn’t read as such.)
    They’ve been that quiet about WoD that any and every update ought to accompanied by evidence/clarification.
    It’s known that EVE’s their bonnie baby, but they just seem incapable of retaining momentum around World of Darkness, sadly. It would not surprise me to find it revisited a year or two from now, in an article such as the XCOM development blowout, that was published on Polygon a little while ago. :(
