Hands down the best kart racer I’ve ever played. Whilst Nintendo is solidifying themselves into just polishing the same thing they’ve always done, with the same ancient mechanics they’ve always used (with the only exception being the delightful Double Dash), I honestly think SUMO has revitalised the formula and turned it into something better. Mario Kart, by comparison, is a relic.

The flight-race or boat-race sections alone are worth the entry price. This is everything that was ever good about ’90s racers and kart games. It’s the next level, it sets the bar. Now everyone else has to catch up. I think SUMO will be leading the curve for as long as they’re making kart racers.

And don’t let the Sonic connection bother you if you’re not into that, as there are plenty of other racers to choose from. Both of the All-Stars games had and have a good gamut of choice. You can even be the announcer from the Football Manager games (I think it was), if you really want to.

Personally, my fave’s Metallix (or Metal Sonic, if you prefer), as I likes the robots.

Iris a nice game, no doubt about it. Areas where I still think it falls way behind Mario kart though:

Weight and feel of weapons (in Sonic Racing they feel light and lack impact)

Control of Karts (namely the power slide), again,Sonic a Racing lacks weight IMO.

Nintendo are just hard to beat when it comes to control. Still, a great title and I did enjoy the transformations and fan service. Filled a nice gap while waiting for Mario Kart 8! ;)
