Big Robot has announced the alpha test for Sir, You are Being Hunted, available on Steam and via the Humble Store, has reached its “Teapot” milestone. You can watch a video detailing the December update below, which addresses issues raised by players, and “introduces the long-awaited Poacher character.” This is the seventh update since the start of the alpha.

Seems like a foolish time to release this.

Play the aesthetically beautiful and visually cohesive Starbound, an unlimited science-fantasy adventure with all of the trimmings? Or play some dreary, brown-grey looking thing with all of the artistic integrity of Second Life, revolving around the most unimaginative steampunk clichés* seen since the ’90s?

They should have waited. They would have been better off competing with Day Z than Starbound.

    * It is possible for steampunk to be vibrant and interesting, but many people use it as an excuse for an otherwise incredibly dull game.

@1 – It is supposed to be drab and gloomy, as it is aiming for a lonely and oppressive atmosphere. The creators were heavily inspired by the STALKER franchise, and the unsettling nature of that series. (albeit with a certain tongue-in-cheek sense of humor)

Obviously it isn’t going to please everybody, but I don’t think there is any reason to force a contest between two games that have different goals and audiences in mind. The gaming community is a broad and vibrant tapestry of differing tastes, and suggesting that there is only room for one game to exist at a time is pretty silly.
