Now, Siliconera reports that Yoshida confirmed his resignation in an art book released today called “The Art of Bravely.” It is packaged with copies Bravely Default: For the Sequel, which also launched today in Japan.

The site has posted this photo of Yoshida address:

Translated, it reads, “This is a personal message of mine, but I’d like to say thank you for all the support these past 18 years. I have decided to leave Square Enix, but I believe our relationship will continue going on. And as long as I’m needed [laughs,] I will continue working on the Bravely Default series. Thank you for your continued support.

Bravely Default main character designer & lead artist,

Akihiko Yoshida.”

I love his work since Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre back in the days when he was working with Quest, and finally joined Sqaure.
He is a brilliant designer and the last one Square Enix had. Now the path is free for Nomuras androgynous J-Pop freakshow.

Only played FF Tactics but that was a real gem. Sad to see him go. Hopefully he finds a better home than SE.

There he goes, the last talented man at Square Enix. I really hope that means we actually see more of his work, because I think he’s one of the best character designers in the industry.

It’s his character-art that attracted me to such great games as Vagrant Story, Tactical Ogre and FFXIII.

Awww bloody hell. Just as they start getting it right, the damn people leave…

Anyway, Square’s loss will be someone else’s gain. Looking forward to seeing what comes next.
