Total War: Rome 2 - Caesar in Gaul expansion announced, first details here

Total War: Rome 2: Caesar in Gaul is the first full expansion to The Creative Assembly's strategy title. The studio has just sent us the first snippets of information. Find out what it's all about here.

In a press release sent to VG247 today, publisher Sega confirmed that Caesar in Gaul will offer a campaign of expanded maps across 18 provinces spanning Gaul and the South coast of Britannia. It'll offer four factions, namely, Gallic Arverni, the Germanic Suebi, the Belgic Nervii and Rome.

The campaign takes place between 58-51 BC, meaning it is shorter than most. As a result, players will engage in 24 turns per year, and seasons, which change the environment and weather effects. Playable factions the Nervii, Boii and the Galatians will also be unlocked in the core Rome 2 campaign, alongside new auxiliary and mercenary units. It all culminates with the notorious Gallic War the battle of Alesia.

"We’ve released a number of DLC packs and free content updates for ROME II, but this is our most substantial so far”, said Mike Simpson, creative director of the Total War series. “We’ve always planned to focus more closely on some of the key conflicts of the ancient world, and Caesar’s war in Gaul is the ideal place to start. We’ve also improved the game considerably since launch, and that process continues as we move onto substantial feature and gameplay improvements”.

Total War: Rome 2: Caesar in Gaul is out December 12th 2013 for $14.99/£9.99/€14.99.
