Not all got one. A german PC news site http://www.computerbase.de wrote, that several thousands were disappointed, because they didn’t have enough consoles. Sony wanted to sell the PS4 from 19 to 3 o’clock in the morning (GMT+1), but told the crowd after three hours, that they were running short on consoles. However, they were able put up an order, which will be delivered between the 16.12.13 and the 21.12.13.

Got mine with the mail. Sold it for 575€. Full of regrets. Didn’t even touch the controller.

It’s called pent up demand. The 7th generation of consoles would have traditionally ended in 2011. So there’s about 2 years of consumers wanting something that hasn’t been released before demand goes down.

This is great news. Worldwide success of PS4 and Xone shows how tried of last gen system people really are and how much they are ready for a new gen.

The ironic (And a bit sad) part is how most of launch line-up on both sides is crap and the best new game is on the platform that is being mostly ignored (3D World on Wii U).

    #21 1 year ago
  22. Dannybuoy

Wow. Seems Sony has a hot console on its hands. I think its a bit shortsighted for so many people on these sites to say console gaming is dead. The general public don’t feel this way and are proving that it very much isn’t. Some people need to forget they are actually the minority *looks at PC master race*

    #22 1 year ago
  23. The_Red

    @22
I don’t think people are saying console gaming is dead now. Sure, they said it when Wii U came out and bombed but currently sales of both PS4 and X1 are phenomenal.

Plus with the latest reports from Europe, PS4 is on its way to PS2 / Wii levels of success (At least for the first few months) which is insane considering the horrible quality of launch line-up. Xone at least has Killer Instinct and Dead Rising 3.

(I won’t include Forza 5 because those microtransactions make it less desirable than week old dog shit)

    #23 1 year ago
  24. Clupula

@23 – There are a lot of PC people who pop up out of the woodwork at the end of every console gen to say that “console gaming is dead” and only the PC will survive.

And they’re always proven wrong every gen.

    #24 1 year ago
  25. Clupula

@21 – And I was tired of Mario in high school. And I graduated in ’93.

In a perfect world, Nintendo would actually invest in some new ip’s and characters. But that’s an argument that’s been made many, many times.

    #25 1 year ago
  26. The_Red

    @Clupula
There are PC fans that always say consoles are dying and there are console fans that always say PCs are dying.

Regarding Mario, I’m absolutely with you but being tired doesn’t mean it’s bad . The game is seriously well made (I was expecting to be weaker but it is good). Of course excluding Mario 64 and to some degree Galaxy 1, I haven’t really enjoyed any Mario game due to my dislike of the character and world.

It is a great game that’s from a really tired and boring franchise. Problem is that the same goes for every next-gen game, except they are not really that great. Take Battlefield 4 and COD Ghosts. They are old and tired games that are mediocre and not really well made. AC4 is the closest thing to Mario 3D World (A decent game from a long milked franchise).
In terms of exclusives, situation is even worse. Shadowfall is rather bad and Forza 5 is a horrible mess of micro-transactions with less content than previous games but more aggressive premium DLC strategy. New IPs? We are stuck with Knack and Ryse…

The only ‘master race’ around here are you self absorbed console gamers…

And the ‘minority’? As much as it pains your ears to hear it but there are far more PC gamers in this world than console gamers… Not that I give a shit about our ‘numbers’ anyway.

But those are the facts, look then up

Its also funny that your the guy who brought this up first… Feeling a bit self conscious of yourself and the rest of the console eltitists?

I used to be a die-hard console gamer until about 2/3 into the playstations and 360s life, when I saw what the PC was offering I jumped ship and commited to never touch a console again (kidding, I had a game of fife on my dads PS4 with him last night) I never started out disliking something I didnt know about, I am well versed on both platforms pros and cons and for the ME the PC was the one with better value even though it cost more.

So yeah; for now console gaming is dead for me, I have no use for it and dont see the value in a closed gaming platform with so far some very crappy uninspired exclusives.

    @27:

A “closed gaming platform” guarantees a uniform user base which guarantees the highest possible intersection of users for a game = possible sales.
Without that, no one would develop a game with a production value of games nowadays.

Man it sure seems like now the new consoles have come out and sold well they’ve stopped fighting within themselves and just gone back to the endless droning on about PC players instead.

Fucking Us vs Them bollocks. Utter bollocks.

“The only ‘master race’ around here are you self absorbed console gamers…”

Surely you realise the irony in calling someone else self absorbed and then going on a rant about why your format is apparently better? You’re kinda proving the point… especially considering his was just a humorous passing comment and yours is a practical essay.

“And the ‘minority’? As much as it pains your ears to hear it but there are far more PC gamers in this world than console gamers… Not that I give a shit about our ‘numbers’ anyway.”

If you didn’t give a shit about the figures, you wouldn’t be pointing them out to “prove” your point.

“But those are the facts, look then up”

    Link, please?

    #31 1 year ago
  32. Panthro

Here comes Michael to save the day… How about you stop jumping into other peoples discussions like the hero we all don’t need.

How was I going on a rant about how my format is better? I’ts my OPINION and I was stating why I changed from consoles to PC.

All he done was made a snide remark about people who game on PC, am I not allowed to defend my format now? So I decided to fire back, Why do you think I am in the wrong?

“If you didn’t give a shit about the figures, you wouldn’t be pointing them out to “prove” your point”

There are plenty of things in this world which I don’t give a shit about but it doesn’t mean I don’t like to correct people when they are wrong.
Why would I care how many other users are using a PC alongside me? That guy obviously does otherwise he wouldn’t bring it up.

    “Link, please?”

I’ve seen plenty of articles stating Steam has over 65 million users which is also rising every year by 30%.
Also, that doesn’t count the large amount of the PC gaming fanbase who don’t have a Steam account and use other means to play there games.
Use your fingertips and go look them up for yourself.

There is no hint of ‘irony’ here I don’t look down on consoles nor do I think they are shit, I just don’t want one of the new ones… It pains me when console gamers think its ok to fire shots at the PC but when we retaliate we get called ‘elitists’ and what not is that ok with you?

Next time I will take the hit on the chin and move along, I forgot that its not ok for the PC crowd to have an opinion on this site.

    #32 1 year ago
  33. Ireland Michael

“All he done was made a snide remark about people who game on PC, ”

No, I’m pretty sure all he was doing was making a silly joke.

“I’ve seen plenty of articles stating Steam has over 65 million users which is also rising every year by 30%.”

That’s still not as high as the console’s online userbase, and is a relatively small percentage of the entire PC owning market, which is somewhere in the region of 180 million PCs a years.

“when we retaliate we get called ‘elitists’ and what not is that ok with you?”

When a PC gamer is called an elitist, it’s because of their obsession with specs and graphics instead of the simple act of enjoying the game. They’re not insulting the format. They’re insulting the people on the format with a crap attitude, which obviously isn’t everyone. If you’re not one of those people, why would you be offended?

“Next time I will take the hit on the chin and move along, I forgot that its not ok for the PC crowd to have an opinion on this site.”

Personally, I think it’s absolutely silly to defend any format, because they’re all great and they are ultimately nothing more than tools to access the game.

    #33 1 year ago
  34. Panthro

Whenever I see the words ‘PC elitist’ used I don’t think about people who are obsessed with specs I see people who are ignorant to any other format other than PC be it for the games or the specs.

Im not offended by him calling me an elitist, I just get annoyed that he is lumping every PC gamer into one group when we are not.

If I randomly out of context made a snide remark about all of the ‘console peasants’ on this site I would be greeted with a response far worse than what I replied with so why in the hell are you wasting your time arguing with me like I did something terribly bad?

I suppose it must be a slow day on VG eh haha.

  35. FeaturePreacher

    @23
It’s not really insane when you consider the standing ovation Sony got at e3. Microsoft really damaged their prospects when they took a Wii U mistake of focusing on gimmicks instead of the hardware and audience that matters.

    #35 1 year ago
  36. ninjakenzen

You would have to be truly stupid to think Console gaming is not relevant, i.e dead.

Panthro, your comments are pathetic. I understand you personally feel Console gaming is dead for you and it’s PC gaming all the way. But your attempts to bring that out in this discussion about PS4 Berlin’s launch is nothing short of irrelevant.

You were looking for conflict with those post, and a side of smugness. Then you go on the counter playing innocent saying ‘my opinion’. Fucking weak man.

This is why PC gamers in console articles are really generally looked down upon. It’s not so much the smugness really, it’s the poor social skills and the out of context passive aggressiveness.

    #36 1 year ago
  37. sh4dow

I don’t get it. This is the first time in about 20 years that a console launch did not matter at all to me (360/PS3 was underwhelming but at least it sparked mild interest in me – which led me to buy a used 360 over a year after launch). Yet, people seem to go even crazier than usual.
Maybe I’ve just become too old for “traditional” gaming… Never thought I’d say that.

    #37 1 year ago
  38. Clupula

All I’ll say is that, counter to your claim of me lumping in EVERY PC gamer as having an elitist attitude, if you read my comment, I used the term “a lot of,” not “all.”

Also, as Michael pointed out, there are more owners of just a PS3 and just a Wii and just a 360 than the 65 million users of Steam. Not to mention, as someone who doesn’t game on PC, I have a Steam account. I got it when Portal 2 came out on PS3. Slowed my computer down too much, so I deleted it. But I am one of those 65 million, yet I’m not a PC gamer.

But I’m not here to do an us vs. them argument. All formats have their positives and negatives. I was just pointing out that many, not all, PC gamers have this weird thing at the end of every gen where they declare console gaming is dead. How many times have we heard, in the last year, that there won’t be a PS5? Hell, I remember people two years ago declaring that Sony wouldn’t do a PS4, but would, instead, move the Playstation brand onto PC. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say PC gaming is dead, because it will always exist as a separate format for gaming.

Yeah well saying dead console or dead PC or dead whatever is like saying I don’t like it. like it what I will ask you? nobody knows; therefore a fail attempt to anything and many thing at same time.
Not only do we reach annoyance and boredom with those kind of hack and slash comments resulting in nothingness but an expression at the level of Neanderthal but it is what we call trolling too, something with no substance whatsoever.

Although I for one will jump over this next gen for lacks of sustainable power. I assume it is going to be ok for next year or so then quickly fall down, so I wait and see perhaps for 2018 gen.

Otherwise, am still waiting for Steam machine and need to be fed more info…

In the meantime, good luck to Xbox1 and ps4 users, and effectively, waiting for a console so long in the weather makes it more demanding and deliver greater bounds perhaps…

    It’s a manufactured “shortage” –
A lot o’ stores received only 5 -10 consoles for launch. No wonder
it sells out first day. Same as you Europeans we’re getting shitloads
o’ PS4 stock on 16.11 through 21.11. Just in time to capitalise on th’
