PS4 will see some PSN features disabled to ensure smooth European launch

Thursday, 28th November 2013 12:11 GMT By Dave Cook

PlayStation 4′s list of launch day PSN services has been updated by Sony, confirmed that a few small features will be turned off to ensure a smooth ride on day one.

Sony posted an update on PS Blog EU to explain that the company is expecting record numbers of PSN activity alongside current PS4 users in the States.

To help ease the server pressure, Sony is disabling PSN’s ‘What’s New’ function, which is essentially a feed that shows your friends PS4 activity like videos, trophies and so on. It’s also turning off the ‘Content Information Screen’ which shows your friends activity for the specific game you’re playing.

What do you make of Sony’s measures?

Meanwhile, Here’s a list of all the PS4 Europe launches kicking off tonight.

    Sound’s ok to me.
These are not so big features, and if it helps with PSN availability at launch, I’m in.

Obviously this can only means that the PlayStation 4 is doomed and that Microsoft have already won the next-gen battle.

seeing as there will be a LOT of log ons tonight and tomorrow, in addition to everyone logging in as normal in the states, there will be a storm! i think this is one day that Sony can guarantee a heavy load on their online infrastructure, and if this helps it, and alleviates the possibility of it going down, then fair play. seems like reasonable forward planning and a good compromise. as @1 said, they arent major features…

Seems sensible enough to me. As long as the ability to play against others on-line and buy stuff from the store exists on day one, that should really be all you need.

@8 STFU! I really hope I can meet somebody like you in person. Then I will give you your monies worth of advice.

We know you don’t have friends and are slime.

And on subject. If you have to shut down things to help your servers out then you really need to rethink even having servers. It isn’t rocket science.
