PS4 controller interface is for the ‘hardest of hardcore’ and first-timers, says House

Wednesday, 27th November 2013 10:07 GMT By Dave Cook

PlayStation 4′s DualShock 4 controller and camera combination will appeal to the ‘hardest of hardcore’ players, as well as giving first-time console buyers a smooth entry into the format, according to Sony’s Andrew House.

Speaking with JeuxVideo, House started by hailing PS4 as a high-value proposition, thanks to the competitive console price and the raft of games that is sure to follow.

He then said of the controller set-up, “We feel that we have developed a controller interface that is equal accessible to the hardest of hardcore gamers who will get the fullest benefits out of their gaming experiences, but when used in combination with the camera or using the touch pad, is very very easily accessible even to the person that is playing games for the first time.”

Using both the DualShock 4 and PlayStation Camera in tandem will likely result in a broad spectrum of experience for the core and casual markets – for lack of better terms.

It follows Pat’s appraisal of the PS4 hardware and UI. Read what he thought through the link.

Do you feel that Sony has a chance to capitalise on both corners of the market in PS4? Let us know below.

    HA HA HAAAAA!!

The hardest of hardcore don’t play on piddly little consoles with technology from 1995!

They play on PC! With 19200×10800 resolution @ 6000 fps!

This claim is a bit odd considering how some “hardcore gamers” hate the Kinect 1/2 with a passion and now those supposed hardcore gamers will magically like motion controls exploited with a less advanced camera sold by Sony. Go ahead I wanna be surpised !

I guess if MS said the same thing, we would already have dozens of comments under the article …

#1 aint about technical stuff, its about games.

Sadly we only get MMOs and 1-2 games a year like Total War, Sim City etc as PC exclusives.

By far the best games are the console exclusives, wouldnt want to miss those.

Also, not going to buy a camera :) useless gimmick as long as you dont have little kids etc I see no fun toying around with that.

The claim is that controller is for hardcore and touch pad and camera will appeal to first timers. He didn’t say the camera was for the hardcore.

@5 – Hates Kinect 1, yes. But from experience with the X1 so far, Kinect 2 is actually really good. Full body controls? Bleh. But augmenting the traditional control is working quite well. Loving that lean feature on BF4.
