Friday, 22nd November 2013 10:45 GMT By Dave Cook

SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis: Collected Works is an 25th anniversary look-back at the history of Sega’s 16-bit machine. it’s now been funded on Kickstarter, and research for the tome has unearthed some previously-unseen concept art from such games as Toejam & Earl and Comix Zone.

We first reported on the book here.

Kickstarter funding for the project has now hit £68,318 of an intended £30,000 goal.

The books creators Read-Only Memory got in touch with the images, which you can see below. The book charts the creation of Sega’s console, and includes 20 interviews, including chats with Greg Johnson (Co-Creator of ToeJam & Earl), Peter Morawiec (Creator of Comix Zone), Rich Karpp (Developer of Vectorman and Vectorman 2), Michael Latham (Producer of Eternal Champions) and Ed Annunziata (Creator of Ecco the Dolphin).

So basically, if you’re a Sega fan, you’ll probably go ape for this. What do you think?

Actually seeing this makes me sad how far Sega has sunk and either ruined or forgotten these great IP’s.
…Or they make a great new game and dont ever release it outside Japan unless its another mediocre Sonic game nobody asked for.

Recent Sonic games have been pretty good in my opinion. Generations and Colors especially being worthy of note. I honestly don’t see how a fan of the past Sonic games could see Colors as anything but brilliant.

Anyway, thiiiis… is shiny. I want one of these. It’s from an era when gaming was much more creative, colourful, and clever. The three Cs that we only rarely see hints of, these days, sadly. It reminds me that there was a time when things were more interesting than grey-brown action adventures or military shooters featuring one-dimensional, po-faced, anal characters.

    I miss those days.
