GTA 5, Tomb Raider, BioShock Infinite and Gone Home among Spike VGX nominations

Monday, 18th November 2013 22:08 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Nominations are in for the Spike VGAs – sorry, Spike VGX – with a couple of big triple-A titles scoring multiple nods along with one indie favourite.

Including music and studio nominations, Grand Theft Auto 5 scored nine nominations, while BioShock Infinite got eight. Tomb Raider received five, and independent Gone Home got three.

You can see the full list of nominations below. They were chosen by a council, but viewers will be given a chance to vote for their favourites.

Awards are all very well, but of course the reason we’re really keen on the VGX is that it’s always full of new trailers, reveals and updates. Tune in on December 7 for all the news as it unfolds.

How can stuff like Forza 5 and Killer Instinct be nominated when they’re not even out yet?!

Aside from that, Steven Ogg for best voice actor please.

I was going to say the same about Tearaway.

  3. Pytox

Wasnt Gone Home pretty short and not worth the money?

  4. Legendaryboss

Based on impressions from playing demos i presume or falling for the hype like Titanfall for example.

Of course how they end up as nominations is anyones guess.

VGX is for dude bros and people who play one game or Call Of duty every year.

Announcements are the only worthly things about this abomination of a show.

GTA V soundtrack worst in the series by far, but Trevor gets my vote. Forza 5? no no! thats a miss print surely, its Gran Turismo 6 hands down. And no PES either?

Yeah, wtf? How can Forza 5 be there and not GT6? That’s pure BS! Anyway, I don’t really care since I got Assetto Corsa.

Well this show airs on December 7th, so the games on the list will be out by then.

Well this was a given, games that actually deserve awards rarely get them or even get nominated for them. It’s always the games that are most overhyped and marketed by the companies that own them, or in worse cases, games where someone involved in the event with an obvious conflict of interest forces their work into a win.

Current video game awards should be talked about for what they really are, pissing contests for overhyped games by big name companies and not an actual reflection of what counts for good.

I kinda feel bad to see Mario 3D World among GOTYs when Rayman Legends and Assassin’s Creed 4 aren’t. Of course I haven’t played it but I don’t think a semi-sequel to Mario 3D Land is worthy of being there. Now if it was Galaxy 3…

Feeling bad when a game you haven’t played pushes a game that doesn’t exist out of the charts?!

    How does that work?! :)

Dont worry, we know the winner already :D

Prepare yourselves for GTA to just win everything despite the actual quality of it in each of the nominations.

Agree with this. It’s a ‘shoe in’ as they say.

It doesn’t even get into my top 5 if I was pushed to list them. I think I got about 60% in then lost the will to play anymore.

Still, a good example of what an infinite budget can do to a project.

I know that doesn’t make sense but can’t help it. Everything about Mario 3D World robs me the wrong way. Of course I was never a Mario fan but Super Mario 64 and Galaxy games were different. 3D World seems like a decent but ultimately lame game like NSMB U.

In contrast, Rayman Legends is a truly interesting and delightful platformer. One that is both fun and well made.

So which one is that? :)
I’m seriously rooting for either The Last of Us. Don’t care about the multiplayer but the SP… amazing.

Completely agree about recent marios. Last good one I played was 3D World on 3DS (best use of 3d yet). Nsmbu was a lamefest rehash. That game should have had cross-buy with 3ds game, but oh ninty…

On GOTY, it has to be either GTA 5 or TLoU.

And remember, VG247 GOTY poll is coming sooon :D

Why on Earth would it have cross-buy when its two different games?

The cross-buy titles are the same title on two different pieces of hardware.

  23. Dragon

Expect they could easily have been one and the same game. They were developed simultaneously by the same team.

Quite interested to see if ssb is a cross-buy or not. Although knowing ninty and its ways, we probably already know the answer.
