Blockbuster UK to shutter 72 stores, 452 jobs will be lost

Blockbuster UK has confirmed it will close 72 stores across Britain, at the cost of 452 jobs.

The BBC reports that Blockbuster’s administrators Moorfields Corporate Recovery, said the move was not an, “easy decision to make”.

It follows the troubled movie chain going into administration a second time back in October. Moorfields added in a statement, “We must reiterate that, as part of our attempts to turn around the business, today’s decision is necessary if parts of Blockbuster are to be saved and a buyer found.”

The news comes after Blockbuster US said it will close 300 stores across North America.

What do you make of the UK closures?

Blockbuster had an opportunity to evolve into a streaming service long time ago but they never took the opportunity to do so. Feel for the people affected

@2 Massive shame. I used to work for them back in the day too.

No shocks really. I’m just stunned at how these over paid useless CEOs never embraced the internet. Had Blockbuster used their brain, they could now be the ‘Netflixx’ of the internet.

The same goes for HMV – old dinosaur practices that have unfortunately cost its hard working staff their jobs. Good luck to them – retail IS dying.
