    Not much a surprise unless it get a release date in the first half of 2014.

    One can only dream.

    I was a bit disappointed with the SpikeTV’s launch party. Besides the retro MGS Snake skin and Uncharted 4 being announced, there weren’t any other notable announcements.

    Also, inFamous SS is being released late March 2014 :(

    I hope they do something ro change up the uncharted “formula”. No doubt it’s going to be incredibly beautiful, but uncharted has always been weak in the gameplay dept. imo.

    @3 Hype, hype and hype, I don’t trust anybody when it comes to this sort of thing these days. You’ll just be disappointed :)

    PS4 is finally out though, which is the main thing. All starts now.

    Yep I saw that. THis industry is going to cannablize itself for that month because everyone will want to get good fiscal years but will only make everyone does ok or worse.

    Wow, I wasn’t sure if the vg comments could be negative about naughty dog but low and behold, what a shower of spoiled brats. This is awesome news, ps4 is where it’s at this gen, like it or not

    Don’t we already get an origins story with Uncharted 3? That whole sequence as kid Drake meeting Sully for the first time? What more do you need for an origin?

    ^ Reading GAF it seems several people think that you play and the voice is Francis Drake. …Though why they think he’d have an American accent is beyond me.

    Any chance it is the voice of the villian which has an old and long fight with Drake ? like,Dr Moriarty style !

    But playing Francis Drake will take sully, elena and some of those other things out of question (although certainly replaced with new people). A reboot then?

    First gameplay’s going to be at the VGAs, ND has always shown stuff there.

    Agreed. TLoU was a step in the right direction for ND. Now it’s two steps forward, one step back.

    I am extremely happy about this. Without a doubt, The Last of Us was brilliant and I hope for a new franchise of Naughty dog like is later, too. But the Uncahrted series is just so good. I can’t get enough of it and I really grant Naughty dog the success. Also the multiplayer of U3 was so much better than TLOUes and I like it to have a series which is not always taking everything too serious, bitter and dark, but awakens this push for exploration.

    @1: Regarding the date: U2 was announced/shown at VGA2008 and came out fall 2009, U2 was announced/shown at VGA2010 and released fall 2011. Then The Last of Us was announced a bit earlier in this cycle, as, due to their success, Naughty Dog now has enough rescources to develop two franchises simultaneously. It came out in summer 2013 already instead of fall and the announcement of Uncharted (4) now comes with the VGAs(/X) 2013 already, which is earlier too.

    So I suppose, it should be fall 2014 or this time even earlier in 2014 than previous titles. On the other hand november releases are the most profitable, but I see a closed PSPlus-Beta in summer and an open beta in October in my crystalball…

    Even an average Uncharted game is a great game, so I’m happy. Can’t help thinking they wouldn’t have been better served doing something completely new, but it has to be said: If you look at what they were able to squeeze out of the PS3, a next gen game by them is gonna be absolutely fucking gorgeous.

    U1 was good,U2 was great then things became stale with the 3rd installment.Gameplay and story weren’t that great either.
    It was obvious they’re gonna go with an Uncharted game for next gen but if it turns out like 3 they better move on to something else after that,away from the Uncharted gameplay formula altogether

    Seen on a screen at ND.

    Assumptions are that it’s set in Francis Drake era. Could have enough scope to mean the gameplay is mixed up from a typical Uncharted game. Keep it named ‘Uncharted’ help boost visibility.

    Or could be an asset for some Nathan-Drake-Falls-Into-An-Animus-Device-And-Has-A-Flashback instead.

    Rumourrumourrumour etc.

    I think that they need to shift paradigms this time around. Keep the beautiful graphics, interesting dialogue and quality voice acting, but shift something else. Make it more about stealth for example, or make it possible to complete the game without killing anybody. Or something. It can’t be a more beautiful Uncharted game with nothing else…

    Definitely needs a reboot of some sorts. UC1 was overrated, UC2 was excellent, UC3 was a slow started and remembered what it was all about a third of the way in.

    @25
    I’d like that. Be interesting to see how they adapt.

    I don’t see a 4 in the video or on a blog post nor do i hear Nathan Drake voice, reboot confirmed.

    Hear, hear.

    How about a young Sully helping Drake become a master thief? It’d definitely be neat to explore the reveal in Uncharted 3 regarding Drake’s name.

    Where does it actually say it’s Uncharted FOUR?

  31. Gekidami

    What they need to do is have a consistent plot like in UC2, rather than a mish-mash of cool set pieces which is what happened in UC3. Keep the quality of the acting & voice work, deliver on the visuals, but a nonsensical plot just wont fly this time, not after ND set new standards with TLOU.

    @30
    Nowhere, but it is the 4th console release. They’ve all had sub titles ever since the first one. Chances are this time they’re just dropping the number for the sub title alone.

    I’m getting the impression it’s about Sir Francis Drake’s adventures.
