Spike VGAs renamed VGX, dated for December

The Spike Video Game Awards, where we're likely to find out more details on much of the new PlayStation 4 content revealed today, have been slapped with a new name and a release date.

According to a tweet from Spike TV host Geoff Keighley, the show formerly known as the VGAs will be called the VGX this year. It's not clear if this is an acronym or not.

Other changes include an "expanded digital footprint" in addition to full live coverage on Spike TV.

This year's show takes place on December 7.

The VGAs have been roundly criticised for their depiction of gaming and its culture, but regularly serve as a platform for big new announces and reveals.
