PS4 launch causes PSN outages, Sony asks fans to be patient

PlayStation 4 launched in the US and Canada last night, and it was followed by thousands of gamers rushing to download the console's day one 1.50 firmware update. The rush has caused PSN outages in some quarters, with Sony asking players for their patience while it resolves the issue.

UPDATE: The support page linked below has now been taken offline by Sony, suggesting that the problems have been remedied. We'll keep you posted if we hear anything further.

ORIGINAL STORY: As you can see from our rolling PS4 launch coverage, the queues across the pond were big , with many gamers standing outside stores for hours in the cold.

Now, Sony has posted the following alert on its US support page:

We'll update you as soon as the issue is resolved.
