Great console, shitty games. Still keeping my preorder though.

So the only exclusive AAA offering is a mediocre, clunky shooter, just goes to show graphics don’t make the game.

@5 – Exactly. I’m in it for the long haul, not just launch month!

    @5: same here…

…but i wont buy many games or peripherals for it. i have finally decided: naked ps3 and controller, killzone shadow fall, resogun, contrast, soundshapes (already bought that on vita but haven’t played it much yet-it’s good though), warframe, blacklight, zelda link between worlds, mario 3d world…not too shabby. looking forward to my winter gaming.

KZ seems to be what I expected it to be (very pretty, nothing new gameplay wise but a decent SP campaign). Happy with that.

  15. Legendaryboss

Only two “bad scores” and the rest are okay it ain’t no Knack nor is it reaching Killzone 2 levels.

  16. polygem

@14: yep. same here. nothing wrong with that. i think it’s good value. th mp looks fun too. it’ll have free dlc maps as well. looks like a solid launch game to me.

I played this a few weeks ago at Sony HQ in London on a 4k screen. It was only 10 minutes, so I couldn’t gauge the game itself, but the graphics were honestly nuts. Very pretty.

  20. Erthazus

I saw crappy AI from a mile even without playing it. How Guerrilla is going to make new iP with technical problems at launch?

I said long time ago and I’m saying it again. Guerrilla games should go away and they could invest more time in inFamous:SS that was delayed with people that made this game.

    #20 1 year ago
  21. DrDamn

On the AI point I have to wonder how many reviewers played it on the non-regular difficulty level? They wouldn’t actually have had time to play it through more than once would they?

    #21 1 year ago
  22. Erthazus

Gameplay is also not it’s strong points.

In general they made Crysis gameplay but without a suit. But that’s the whole point of a Crysis game where you have a suit with a tons of abilities and a lot of choices on the battlefield. In Killzone you have bad AI, no abilities at all (except for stupid flying thing that AI does not want to kill for SOME reason.)

and as a launch game for a next gen game, graphics are not there. Infamous:SS which is an open world game looks much better from a smaller studio. Shame it is delayed. These guys could help them with the assets.

    #22 1 year ago
  23. DrDamn

Infamous:SS was never a launch game and therefore never delayed.

  24. monkeygourmet

Infamous SS would have really helped out.

Im quite happy to wait now i’ve seen the (unfortunatly predictable) scores for the launch exclusives come in.

Guerrilla Games used to be a Dutch company, so this must be good. And cheap.

    #25 1 year ago
  26. fihar

They were competent enough to do Botzone in KZ3, so I know for a fact that they know how to program an AI.
It’s a bit weird that they messed up now of all time, considering how important this could be.

Just goes to show how rushed this console launch was I suppose. A couple more months and that co-op mode wouldn’t even need to be made as DLC.

  27. Erthazus

@23, It was a launch game in theory. It was said at the first event. But then the later date they gave to Second Son.

  28. DrDamn

See my comment @21 – normal mode on games is getting easier and easier. Not that I complain as that’s about my level with my ageing reactions :).

It was never said at the launch event that Infamous was a launch title. Launch window, yes. Launch title, no.

  30. DrDamn

Show me where they said it was a launch game.

    #30 1 year ago
  31. monkeygourmet

^ Now now, lets not get bogged down in semantics!

Launch title or not, ISS would have helped this decidedly average showing! :)

Your basically buying into ‘what is to come’ when it comes to exclusives with both of the next gen machines.

There is barely a ‘killer app’ between both machines.

    #31 1 year ago
  32. DrDamn

Absolutely – the previews coming out of the event this week were glowing. Just pointing out it wasn’t delayed.

    #32 1 year ago
  33. monkeygourmet

Have they already shown new game previews? I thought that was tommorow?

    #33 1 year ago
  34. Phoenixblight

Right. Why else would anyone get a console at launch other than for what is to come? I got it for ISS, whatever Santa Monica and Naughty Dog have in the oven.

The PS4 is more attractive in that situation (price), Xbone has more(better?) exclusives but it’s price point puts it out of that territory IMO.

For £429 it has to kill it on launch, and the games sofar seem okay at best.

Ironically the Wii U had quite a varied launch line up in some respects (Just nothing else for about 8 months! ;))

Both PS4 / Xbone have been saved somewhat by the multiplats.

    #35 1 year ago
  36. Phoenixblight

The WiiU definitely looks enticing now especially with Mario and DK but I will wait another year when hopefully a new Zelda comes out along with a price drop.

“Both PS4 / Xbone have been saved somewhat by the multiplats.”

This. Best selling titles beyond Forza and KZ will be third party from the rest of the top 5 or more.

    #37 1 year ago
  38. polygem

only problem for me personally…the third party games that are available do not interest me much. i’m tired if cod bf and i am not a fan of the asscreed games. i don’t play sports games either. i wish there would be at least a game in the dimension of skyrim or at least a diablo ps 4 port. but well, it is what it is, i have a ps+ sub already, will pick up killzone and then mario and zelda. that will keep me busy for a while.

I’d like to say something, I am not that big of a fan of Killzone, but truth be told Shadow Fall is my kinda of game, I love everything that was shown and I could care less about the reviews.

Heck some of my most favorite games got low reviews, Darksiders franchise, Castlevania Lords of Shadow, Batman Arkham Origins, among others.

So seriously check the game there are tons of footage around, then decide for yourself if the game is worth it or not, simple as that, and this isn’t just about Killzone and the PS4, NO, sames goes to Ryse Son of Rome and Xbone, heck any title.

  47. redwood

well. I personally liked Kz 2 but kz 3 was certainly not at par with it. Will definitely be checking out k:SF when i get my ps4.

also that kotaku review is bollocks!!!. It clearly shows the reviewer’s bias towards KZ or +bias towards that heap of crap called cod. I saw the COD ghosts review and it got a not yet! and kz gets a NO.. for exactly what?
