Forza 5 launch trailer brings on the vroom with lovely car porn

Wednesday, 6th November 2013 19:36 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Forza Motorsport 5 releases alongside Xbox One in two weeks, and to celebrate, Microsoft has released the launch trailer. It features many a lovely car being panned over in slow motion, the camera caressing every curve, nook, tread, leather-clad seat, and shiny bumper. Yep. Virtual car porn. It’s rather nice. Have a look below, but please refrain from touching yourself. This is a family site.

You just have to wait and see, kid. You’re still just a child. There’s still a lot you need to learn.

No gameplay really, just camera angles and edits :( They know how to make lovely cars.

    ”All in-game footage”.

Lots of polys on the cars but the lighting is just off. Everything has that bright white “I escaped from the Dreamcast” look about it.

Also, the impossibly realistic water in the trailer looks shit.

@7 Which is BS and they should be sued. This isn’t “actual in-game footage”, this is offline renders with anti-aliasing turn to 11.

Just look at some Forza 4 trailers. “All in-game footage” too… Now go play and be disappointed.

@8 I never liked the lighting of Forza games. Gran Turismo beat them easily regarding realistic lighting.

@8 “Specular” is the word you’re looking for.

Oh no! Microsoft, you HAVE to stop getting Forza 5 onto the shelves NOW!

Kabby, with his impressive track record of creating racing games, and his vastly superior knowledge of dynamic 3D modelling (compared to the amateurs at Turn10) said the lighting is off!!!

Please, please, please Microsoft, listen to this guy, and sack everyone on the Turn10 team. Please?

@11 I don’t want to defend Kabby, but I agree with him about the lighting in Forza being “off” and it’s not about technology, I think they deliberately want it that way.

It’s like comparing pCARS and iRacing. The technology (lighting-wise) in pCARS is much better than iRacing but for the “realistic look” I think (and many other people in racing sim forums) that iRacing is more realistic.

edit: The lighting in F5 is almost perfect (except being static) and a HUGE improvement compared to previous games in the series.
