Capcom financials: Monster Hunter 4 gives profits much-needed boost

Capcom has posted its latest half-year financial results, confirming that strong sales of Monster Hunter 4 in Japan have helped cool something of a slump in its last report.

You can check out Capcom's previous full-year financial report here. It also follows rumours that Capcom's European operations were set to under-go significant restructuring and lay-offs.

Now, GI.biz reports that Capcom's six-month report shows that the Digital Contents Division - which handles PC, console and mobile games - saw ¥3.2 billion in revenue, which is a 16.9% year-on-year increase. Net profit came in at ¥4.9 billion, an increase of 20% year-on-year.

The same division accounted for the bulk of Capcom's income, which totalled ¥37.5 billion. It's a 7.2% year-on-year increase, but it's worth noting that the division's operating profit slumped 7%, to ¥5.4 billion.

At the time of writing, Capcom's Digital Contents division has seen success with Monster Hunter 4, which has topped 3 million units sold in Japan. It released in September.

The game's success comes ahead of other key titles such as Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies on Nintendo 3DS and Resident Evil: Revelations HD, both of which were said to have "basically achieved projected sales." No figures were given however, and the critically-panned Lost Planet 3 was said to have fallen short of projections, again with no figures stated.

We posted Capcom's list of top ten biggest-selling titles since the company was formed here. It reveals some interesting figures regarding the firm's stable of IP.

What to you make of the figures above? We'll have more on Capcom's financials throughout the day.
