Oculus Rift has confirmed a dedicated mobile version of the VR headset, for Android devices only.
The news was confirmed by Oculus Rift CEO Brendan Iribe during GamesBeat 2013, as reported by VentureBeat.
The mobile version will be lighter, and draw on the connected mobile device’s processor to function.
The company hopes to have an Android compatible version of the headset release simultaneously with or as close as possible to the PC version, which is expected in 2014. There are no plans for an iOS version.
News of an Android version was expected after tech guru John Carmack dropped a mention of it last week; at the time, he also said a 4K version was inbound.
Iribe also reportedly said Oculus Rift is interested in bringing the headset tech to home theatres.
