Dark Souls 2 American PS3 beta rescheduled following multiple issues

Sunday, 27th October 2013 21:56 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Dark Souls 2 was supposed to be the subject of a PlayStation Network beta test this weekend in North and South America, but it has been rescheduled after server issues kept most eager testers out.

“We thoroughly apologize for all of the confusion and issues. We will be rescheduling the Network Test for another date,” Namco Bandai’s Twitter account announced.

“Everyone who was in this test will be allowed in for the next Dark Souls 2 PS3 Network Test. Your spot is secure.”

The publisher could not provide a date for the rescheduled test, but did note that it should have more information to share in the coming week.

The American test was open to those who’d received an invite and to PlayStation Plus members.

Although some testers – such as me, alas – were unable to access the closed European beta, plenty of others made it in, including Dave – who found it a bit too easy, actually.

Dark Souls 2 is due on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in March.

Was this the same thing from this morning via a PS+ download, 7am GMT through to 9am? I’m in the UK and got in for about an 1.5 hours before I had to go to work. A message did pop up during play apologising for problems. Have to say I enjoyed it what I played, felt good to be playing some fresh Dark Souls. If I get to play some more I won’t complain. Definitely something to keep the old consoles around for!

I didnt want to spoil myself so I didnt play myself.

But I read on neogaf that it was really easy and people beat 2-3 bosses on the first attempt.

Hardly died to normal combat aswell, only some traps/surprises killed them.

Dosnt sound so good, since it already got easier from Demons Souls to Dark Souls.

@2 It’s intentional, they give you a lvl 30ish toon and that is your edge right there. I’m guessing that it has to do with the fact they are testing server structure and server load and multiplayer features and the gameplay itself isn’t the focus of these tests.

Anyways, I trust them not to dampen difficulty, it is what made everybody to fall in love with their Souls games. And do what I do, stay away the beta events and don’t read much into what people say about it. :D

I found the normal guys, the ones that jumped out of the long grass etc, not to bad, could take on a couple of those at a time, but the big troll like guys with sickles, they took all my stamina and staggered me in one hit. Maybe it was the character I was playing, the Templar guy. Get two of them on me and it was pretty hard to stay alive. Definitely seemed a bit harder to get round behind to backstab. Also didn’t find any kind of divine weapon to take on the skeletons so had to run out of that cave and over the bridge. I’m on my NG++ run on the original, soul level 170, fairly tanked up and knowing the tactics I need for each situation, so it was kind of nice to be back playing as a weedy vulnerable character in an area I didn’t know. Maybe I’ll start a new character in Dark Souls 1.
