Wii discontinued in Europe, Nintendo confirms

Friday, 25th October 2013 00:19 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Although the original announcement only applied to Japan, Nintendo UK has confirmed that the Wii has also been discontinued in Europe.

“Wii imports to Europe have been discontinued,” a representative told MCV.

“However, there are still a variety of options for consumers to enjoy Wii games and the Wii gameplay experience. Wii U, which is Nintendo’s latest home console, is backwards compatible with nearly all existing Wii games and accessories when you switch to Wii Mode on Wii U.”

Additionally, the Wii Mini will continue to be stocked in Europe, and if worse comes to worst you can always purchase on in the US, where the console has yet to be discontinued.

Thanks, CVG.

Brenna, there wouldn’t be much point in getting a US Wii if you were in Europe, given that Nintendo region locked it to stop people from offering (or being able to enjoy) what Ninty wouldn’t or couldn’t deliver in the region.

    Sure, import your games, too.

If you were that determined, then yeah, that option is there.
