Saints Row 4: Enter the Dominatrix official trailer is completely sane and chaste

Wednesday, 23rd October 2013 16:00 GMT By Dave Owen

So, Saints Row 4 DLC Enter the Dominatrix is here at last, and there’s an official trailer which is just about everything you’d expect it to be. It takes the form of a mock-interview session with Saints characters, talking about how the DLC was originally shelved, and maybe should have stayed that way. And then there’s bondage gear. So much bondage gear. Maybe don’t watch it at work.

Saints Row 4: Enter the Dominatrix launches on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC today.

I hope Volition never back away from this. It’s so vividly over the top and all intended to be a silly joke, and as such it’s a great laugh. What Volition did is create a game which celebrates being a video game. That’s a quality which many mainstream publishers have long forgotten about, having since given up on that to try to create movie experiences, or games which meet the average perception of realism.

Not Saints Row IV though. SR IV knows it’s a video game and it continues that in every new piece of content it releases. It’s just such a wonderfully silly video game experience, and one that makes me yearn for more like it. You can’t take it seriously, it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be realistic, it’s not meant to be a movie experience.

How the hell are you even still mainstream, Volition? How do you stay afloat? What you make usually doesn’t sell to the masses, yet you keep doing it. Volition tends to not just disprove the rule that novelty can’t exist in the mainstream, but they generally piss on it, too.

I fear for their future, sometimes. Or I fear they’re going to toss aside their novelty in favour of making more bland experiences to suit the tastes of the average gamer.

But then they show me this. And I’m less worried.

I just don’t know how they’re mainstream — kind of like Traveller’s Tales, I suppose. I’d expect this kind of thing more from indies. Well, however you’re doing it, Volition… whatever magic you’re working…

    Don’t ever stop.
