Obduction, is an adventure game on Kickstarter from Cyan, Inc., the creators of Myst and Riven which is in need of $1.1 million to develop the title.

Set for release on Windows and MacOS, with a targeted release of mid-to-late 2015, Obduction is an all-new, real-time, first-person adventure that “harkens back to the spirit of Cyan’s earlier games Myst and Riven.”

Here’s the official blurb: “Obduction resurrects that incredible feeling of suddenly finding yourself in the middle of a new world to explore, discover, solve, and become part of.”

The pitch video shows off Unreal Engine 4 artwork as well as some details from Cyan’s Rand Miller.

With 20 days left, 1,476 backers have already pledged $86,455. Hit up the link for more information.

I’ve been talking about the Cyan Kickstarter for a while, now. I’ve been yammering with my friends, on forums, and just trying to figure out what it is they’re up to.

Cyan is one of my favourite companies. It’s a place where crytozoology, linguistics, nature, tech, and architecture nerds get together to construct things of beauty. Not many things have the capacity to feel as equally alien as they do real as those which Cyan has crafted. As I know I’ve said, I still go to visit Shroomie on a yearly basis, it’s my Uru sabbatical. This time a lady friend has tagged along and we’re having a grand old time, it’s fun passing it all along to someone else and vicariously enjoying their reactions to how beautifully alien it all is.

Cyan is a developer I’ll always remember.

So I’m going to check this out, and I’m probably going to get so excited that I won’t know what to do with myself.

Thanks for the heads up, Steph.

So, had a good look. Thoughts…

Wow… this is lovely, and they’re still the teasy gits they always were. Oh, if alien worlds were commonplace, what a world that would be, and how much I’d want to live in it. Same goes for the lack of violence. I feel alien myself sometimes in how I’m drawn to the opposite of any common or desirable things.

This one is definitely for fans of the Myst series and games like it. I’m impressed… I really didn’t know Cyan still had it in them. Bless ‘em.
