Thursday, 17th October 2013 10:44 GMT By Dave Cook

Call of Duty: Ghosts publisher Activision has congratulated GTA 5 developer Rockstar on the game’s sales, and warns that it looks forward to getting its record back. Handbags at twenty paces lads.

Speaking with MCV, UK senior brand manager Kevin Flynn said, “Congratulations to the team at Rockstar for their success. We look forward to getting the record back before the next GTA title.”

Well then.

GTA 5 now holds seven Guinness World Records for its impressive sales since launching September 17.

It’s even pulling big numbers in Japan.

Call of Duty: Ghosts drops November 5 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, then on next-gen consoles at their respective launches.

What do you think? Can Ghosts take back the title? Let us know below.

lol, not sure about that! :)

mind you, on sheer numbers for the series, im sure COD is on a different planet.

Makes you wonder what would have been if Sony had managed to hold onto GTA as an exclusive.

Nope, COD is slowly but steadily on the decline.

I can’t believe they’ve held out this long for a complete rework and new engine. I bet that will give it a bit more legs, people will buy into the whole ‘next gen COD is finally here’ thing…

I will only buy it, if the did a good job of the WII U version.
BTW. They can only dream about the GTAV sales…

R* should so make a COD Ghosts ‘Dog with Dog Armour’ skin for Franklin’s dog in GTA 5 as a classic FU to Acti… That would be great!

You can already get a COD Ghosts style mask from the beach shop, it would create some great viral stuff in multiplayer.

Well I hope BF4 beat the hell out of COD before it can get near that record.

I’m not talking money wise, i’m talking figures:

Good luck with that. GTA V took all their records, smashed them, tossed them, smashed them again and then laughed really, really hard.

He wasn’t just talking talking about the next CoD.

He said “We look forward to getting the record back before the next GTA title.

Which could be anywhere between 3 to 5 years from now.

Anything could happen in that time…

Including Titanfall 2 going multiplatform, and taking over the FPS franchise completely.

Or even a completely new IP coming along and finishing CoD off…

Then again, maybe 2 or 3 CoDs from now, we could be looking at a new version that actually does outsell GTAV.

GTA V did $1bn in 3 days. They sold approx. 11 million copies in one day. The result of many years of anticipation. I think COD lacks that level of anticipation to beat them.
But surely, if the market grows (as in more players worldwide), then it’ll make it easier.

“I’m not talking money wise, i’m talking figures:”

I’ll take some quotes from the link you posted:

“The launch month for Black Ops II included seven fewer days than did the launch month for Modern Warfare. That difference, 12 days this year versus 19 days last year.”

“Because of the time differential, he cautioned against drawing conclusions about overall Call of Duty sales until the end of 2012.”

So it turns out wherever they got those figures from, they were basically arse.

“According to NPD Group, Black Ops II was November’s biggest selling game of the month in the U.S. Black Ops II sales surpassed first-month sales of 2011′s Modern Warfare 3 by 8 percent, and sales for November sit at around the 10 million unit mark”

I think Ghosts would have a hard time outselling it, but as far as getting the record back before the next GTA? That’s pretty well a given.

No matter how much “haters gonna hate” is going on, COD is still in a league of its own sales-wise.

COD is just trying to act tough cuz Rockstar roasted them, along with a lot of other shooters, in the in-game commercials in GTAV.
