The Crew expected to shift 2.5M units, sales targets lowered due to “limited potential” as a driving game

Wednesday, 16th October 2013 15:19 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Ubisoft held an investor’s call yesterday to discuss its revised financial outlook following the delay of Watch Dogs and The Crew into spring 2014.

The firm also revealed on the call that “already released games” such as Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Rayman Legends among “others” missed projected sales targets.

“Principally the profit warning is related to the postponement of The Crew and Watch Dogs,” said Ubisoft’s chief financial officer Alain Martinez per VideoGamer. “We’ll see where we go and we believe that we have a nice potential for the future.”

Ubisoft revised its financial outlook yesterday for fiscal year 2014 after it announced delays for The Crew and Watch Dogs, stating it now expects sales of between €995 million and €1.045 billion compared to the prior target of between €1.420 billion and €1.450 billion.

The delays could see Ubisoft losing fiscal revenue of $560 million, which would result in a loss of around $88 million and due to yesterday’s news, shared in the firm fell 25%.

Yesterday, retailers Amazon and GameStop said not to worry about pre-order bundles for either PS4 or Xbox One, as it will work with customers in various ways. All would still receive their next-gen consoles at launch, with Watch Dogs either being sent to them upon release, or customers could swap for a different bundle.

Should have stuck with Rayman on Wii U, then released it on other platforms but not at the same time as GTA5… Rubes…

All that fucking about and bad blood they created didn’t even get them the sales they wanted anyway… Greedy fuckers

Looks like about a million on all platforms according to VGC, and a pathetic less than 10k on Wii U.
No wonder Wii U is getting pissed by everyone. Wii U owners buy nothing 3rd party (as seen is abysmal sales).

Good for them to make Legends multi-platform, since it would have been wasted on Wii U as an exclusive. Their crowd is too busy licking Mario rehashes :D
Makes me shudder to think how much bigger of a flop it would have been if it would have been a stupid Wii U exclusive. Being a 3rd party Wii U exclusive is a sure recipe for disaster right now.
Poor W101. Dave was so right about that.

I hope Wii U owners realize that a false sense of butthurt towards UbiSoft will only hurt Wii U itself, not Ubi. Ubi is one of the last big 3rd party supporting Wii U and these abysmal sales will push them to follow EAs path sooner rather than later.

Agree with that. Had it come out in Feb/March when it was meant to on WiiU I would have bought it. By the time it did come I’d too much other stuff to play. It’s already down to £25 in supermarkets on 360/PS3. I’ll pick it up when I have a platforming lull.

@3, 300K? Really? Can you show sales of these games please?

I did pick it up on Wii U but, controlwise, it isn’t quite good enough IMO. Still, looks nice but feels like a tarted up flash game too me.

Would have been good for the Wii U in feb, but Ubi got greedy and like you say, it’s £20 – £25 in the bargain bin now… It’ll be on PS Plus in about 3 months :)

I had fun with Rayman Legends. It is simple but fun with great art-style.

    Also lol @ Ubi.

“Why aren’t we selling as many games? We are trying our hardest to merge all our franchises together in one big boring lump of shit, yet people aren’t happy? derp derp!”

Splinter Cell is basically AC, Watchdogs, The Division now. They are the same game over and over with a graphics overhaul… Wow, great ‘new’ IP’s guys…

They need to do a Splinter Cell that is not advertised as an action game/shooter. They had the reveal of it onstage, and it basically seemed to play itself.

I have the vita version of rayman legends and was surprised the overall leaderboard was under 10k. for comparison, I believe hotline miami was over 50k. I loved the game except for the stupid murf touch stuff…

Look at Dragon damage controlling for Ubisoft, singling out Wii U when the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of Blacklist sold like crap too. PS3 and Xbox 360 install base is over 150 million and Blacklist didn’t even break 800K combined.

And how about those Rayman Legends sales on Xbox 360 and PS3? You know, the platforms that caused a 7 month delay?

Yeah, the PS3 version of Rayman sold like crap, as well as the 360 version. The Wii U version sold the best.

Ubisoft stocks dropped roughly 20% after the announcement of the delays, it’s time to buy guys !

To be fair, they did release Rayman at the worst time possible.

Also, are they insane? The Crew is a next-gen, always-online new IP. Unless it is coming in 2-3 years, there is no way in hell that would sell 2.5 million units.

Rayman should have released in Feb for Wii U, then on XBLA / PSN for £19.99 later.

Im sure it would have sold more doing it that way.
